Dating from the 12th century,[1] St Cwyfan's Church is dedicated to Saint Kevin, who founded the monastery at Glendalough in County Wicklow, Ireland.[2] The church originally stood at the end of a peninsula between two bays, Porth Cwyfan and Porth China. In later years the sea slowly eroded around the coast in the two bays, therefore the peninsula was cut off, turning Cribinau into a small tidal island. As a consequence, a causeway was built to the island to allow the local population to get to the church

My favorite time for photography is the “Bird Mating and Dating” season. Feathers make a change in color/ texture and we are treated to fascinating fashion statement on the “Rookery Red Carpet”.
I took my new camera to the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm in hopes of finding activities in the natural rookery. No active nests, but a few birds were feeling “the call of nature” as they prepared for that perfect partner. Mating is the name of the game and dating will provoke many dancing displays. Great white egret males are the leader as they usually come first to the mating tree. Before he has chosen his mate for the season, he constructs the nest. He also spends time grooming long wispy plumes and perfecting a dance to attract the perfect female. Egrets are monogamous each nesting season.
Dating back from almost 7 years ago on a gorgeous day I can't remember having seen this anymore. Also from the time I had a Sony camera, that can't live up to my criteria anymore. So hoping for snow this year, but with temperatures exceeding 12 degrees it might take a while still. Merry Xmas to all the kind people willing to spend time on my pictures!

The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the early 12th century when King Øystein Magnusson (c. 1088– 1123) ordered that a church be built in Vågan to serve the Lofoten area. The first church was likely a stave church and it was located about 200 metres (660 ft) west of the present site of the church. In the mid-1600s, the old church was enlarged and renovated, giving the building a cruciform design. After centuries of use, the old church deteriorated and in 1712 or 1713 the old church began to collapse and so it was torn down. A new church was built on the same site in 1713-1714. It was a timber-framed long church design with a tower on the roof and a cemetery surrounding the church. This church was in use for nearly a century when in 1798, it was disassembled and moved to the nearby island of Værøya where it was rebuilt as the Værøy Church. A new church was built in Vågan to replace the one that was moved away. The new church was a timber building in a cruciform design.
In 1814, this church served as an election church (Norwegian: valgkirke).Together with more than 300 other parish churches across Norway, it was a polling station for elections to the 1814 Norwegian Constituent Assembly which wrote the Constitution of Norway. This was Norway's first national elections. Each church parish was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet in Eidsvoll later that year.
By the late 1800s, the Kabelvåg area had seen a lot of population growth due to the tremendous fishing opportunities each season. In 1898, a new church was built about 200 metres (660 ft) to the east of the old church. It was designed to be large enough to accommodate all the fishermen who came to Kabelvåg each season. It was nicknamed the "Lofoten Cathedral" (Lofotkatedralen) by Eivind Berggrav, the Bishop of the Diocese of Oslo in 1929. The church was designed in Gothic revival style by the architect Carl Julius Bergstrøm (1828-1898). The new church was consecrated on 9 October 1898. After the new church was completed, the "old church" was still located just across the road for a couple of years until it was demolished in the summer of 1900.

An afternoon date in the Botanical Gardens in Utrecht, the Netherlands with Ciska which I met through Flickr.
The Botanic Gardens are located at the heart of Utrecht Science Park. They were laid out on and around Fort Hoofddijk, which dates from the 19th century. This extraordinary stretch of green space, covering nine hectares, is part of Utrecht University. To this day, the Botanic Gardens continue to serve their primary function, which is to support education and research. In addition, there has been an increasing focus on the public role played by the Botanic Gardens. Nature conservation, especially in an international context, is another important aspect.
As an organisation, the gardens date back to 1639, making it one of the oldest botanic gardens in the whole of the Netherlands.

Last Wednesday I was able to catch both the empties and loads on NHN with little effort. I got word that Dover was packed full of interchange and knew a full green set had gone south the day before. With gas, steel, and oil I knew there would be a chance they may be pretty late getting into the pit. I got the timely heads up as I was taking my lunch that they had just departed Tri-City, so I headed downtown to see what was available. Although not the most ideal conditions, it was better than the cloud mess forecasted, and I got a quick visit in with the friendly folks waterside in Lebanon, Maine. They had an impressive 53 cars going north.
