Jefferson Lab welcomed U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright with a full day visit to learn about the lab’s expertise in areas of AI and machine learning, STEM workforce development with the next generation of scientists, leadership in accelerator science and exploring nuclear physics science.

Featuring more than 30 experts from Jefferson Lab, NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton and Newport News Shipbuilding, the event exposed Hampton Roads high schoolers and their teachers to the vast array of engineering and related disciplines — mechanical, chemical, aerospace, nuclear, electrical, to name a few. It also tested students’ wits with hands-on design and engineering challenges based on each facility’s mission.
The event is a celebration of National Engineers Week and is sponsored by the Peninsula Engineers Council (PEC).
A data science is one that a person needs to be have high understanding of statistics and mathematics.Lots of opurtunity are there if you will become and expert in data science.

Beyond the Beam is a STEM Workforce Development series designed to equip Jefferson Lab's undergraduate interns, upper high school students, and recent graduates with the tools, context, and confidence to thrive in the scientific workplace.
Each weekly session features a Jefferson Lab or DOE expert sharing their knowledge on a practical or mission-aligned topic, helping students explore career-relevant skills while learning how science happens at Jefferson Lab and beyond.
