Olfert Dapper (1636-1689), a Flemish physician and intellectual person, knew perfectly the classical Greek and Latin literature. He was born in Amsterdam and completed his education in Utrecht. Although she never travels in her life, she gives herself to geography studies, so she always bases her knowledge on a wide area in her works. Thanks to his regular and centrist working style, he manages his research team in an exemplary way and publishes history and geography studies about China, Asia, Africa, America, Amsterdam and eastern Mediterranean islands. These books are decorated with high aesthetic standard maps and engravings.
The publication used mostly ancient Greek and Latin literature authors such as Herodotos, Pausanias, Plutarch, Ptolemy, Strabon, Aged Plinius, Apollonios, Hesychios, Pomponius Mela, Solinus, Stephanus Byzantius, John Hrisostomos. Apart from these, portolan (harbor) maps and island maps called isolario (Cr. Buondelmonti, B. Bordone, T. Porcacchi, M. Boschini, VM Coronelli) testify to contemporary travelers (P. Belon, G. Sandys, Sieur Du Loir, J Uses Spon and G. Wheler etc.), accurate maps of his time (J. & C. Blaeu etc.) and information from Dutch traders. Unlike Dapper's other work, "Archipel", this work is not translated into other languages; as a matter of fact, it is understood that the book was published only to praise the magnificent victories won by the Venetians during the Ottoman-Venetian war (1685-1688). Many of the striking engravings are inspired by the work of VM Coronelli. This work created a useful handbook and advisory text for future travelers.

The disk goes into the homebrew hydraulic press. The dap tool is made out of an old ball bearing. A wood dapping block and tools will work just as well for simple domed shapes.

The Shipbuilding series of pendants are inspired by a song of the same name, made as part if my Song Lore blog series.
They are made from brass with Ice Resin and various found objects, brass components, bits of paper from an old nautical themed card, freshwater pearls, and glass beads. The resin is crystal clear, and very reflective, and amplifies the collage inside the brass pendant with amazing detail. Unfortunately, they are so reflective, they are a bit hard for me to photograph, but I love each one dearly!
This pendant was made from a raw brass frame pendant, which was heated with flame to give it interesting coloration. Some of the pendants in this series were also hand domed with a hammer and dapping block. The pendant was then carefully filled with the paper and found object bits and covered with a water-like layer of crystal clear resin.

This series of resin pendants were inspired by a sheet of reproductions of vintage matchbook cover art. I thought it would be really cute to pair the matchbooks with actual matches and embed them into resin

Day 300!!
Rachelle made the band, hitting it 300 times with a hammer. She says it was very cathartic, and it definitely sounded that way to me... It also stretched the blank 2 sizes. Mike hammered 300 circles into the copper disc with a dapping cutter, then domed it. Rachelle had the idea to make the two rings into one, so I soldered them together. A perfect union! What a team!!!

These daisy- like flowers give a great splash of color to the garden and are perfect for pots and borders. The flowers come in impressive hues of magenta, blues, and lavenders. Each plant becomes covered with daisy-like flowers in stunningly vivid hues of magenta, blue and lavender. They are safe to place outside once night frosts have passed and are perfect plants to pop into your garden or in containers to bridge the gap between late winter and early spring. Once blooming is nearly over you can cut the plant to remove all the dead flowers. Re-blooming will occur in 3 – 4 weeks. Will repeat bloom, and flower on sturdier, more compact plants. Give them morning sun and afternoon shade, or dapped sun all day. Coastal gardeners can plant them in full sun. Plant them in rich, well-draining soil and water regularly.

Here at last are my example pieces for the Metal Stamping class! I used a variety of metals and techniques. In addition to stamping with letter punches on a pre-formed blank and washer, I used metal shears and a disc cutter to cut my own blanks, hammer-textured three of them, and curved the larger black discs on a dapping block.
