I don't normally do this sort of thing, but I was heading for a train and on my way into Lime Street the light was streaming out of the station through the arches on the London Road side. I thought it'd make a great image but didn't want to miss my train so I dashed in, only to find that I had a good ten minutes to wait. Great news. Outside I go to get my shot. I was just settling on a spot and turning my point-and-shoot on when I heard a voice say something about a photo. "I'm sorry?" I said
"I thought you were going to take my photo" said this very smartly dressed chap
I laughed "I will if you like?"
Now this has happened a few times previously. To be fair, its always gentlemen who ask, with a smile, whether I want to take their picture. I hate to disappoint. The light was really too harsh but I positioned him as best I could to at least minimise the visual background noise. The highlights are a bit blown but I like it all the same because he has a lovely smile.
I asked his name and he said it was Gerard Conteh. When I commented that his is a very famous surname in Liverpool he replied that yes, he was John Conteh's brother, one of seven. He owns Hannah's Bar on Hardman Street. We had a lovely chat. He was really interesting and very generous with his time. A true Liverpool character and a very dapper gent.
