Two years ago today, a trio of war-torn GMD products catches rays of golden sunshine as they disrupt a peaceful evening on the west banks of the Mississippi River in Dakota, Minnesota. During the summer of 2020, CP operated quite a few of these Herzog trains from the ballast pit outside of Waterloo, Wisconsin to replenish materials for track projects in Western Minnesota and North Dakota. Almost all of these trains featured SD40-2’s wearing the classic Dual Flag and PacMan paint schemes and the engines put on a spectacular show as they made track speed on the former Milwaukee Road mainline to the Twin Cities.
It is almost a year since I went to see the Stereophonics in concert. They were awesome and it was a great evening. Two weeks later we went into lockdown in the UK.
CP 5037 rounds the iconic curve in Dakota, MN with the day's H19 for St. Paul.
Although it was cloudy, at least it felt nice. The same cant be said for those south of here, Those dark clouds in the distance are part of the massive Derecho which devastated Iowa and Illinois on August 10, 2020.

Making my first jaunt into the North Dakota territory, Dan, Mark and I set up in Wishek, ND for an eastbound chase of a DMVW grain train starting before dawn on a windy and frigid morning. The sun finally eclipsed the cloudbank east of Lehr as the five unit train negotiated the rolling hills and s-curves of this former Soo Line trackage.
The Upland Sandpiper has become one of my favorite birds - niot easily seen from where I live but a great find in the prairies of North Dakota and Wisconsin.

The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain monument under construction on privately held land in the Black Hills, in Custer County, South Dakota, United States.
Beginning date: June 3, 1948; 74 years ago.
DAIR southbound stone train is making it's way through the curves at Chatsworth. The train will go into the siding just south of here where it will wait for the northbound crew out of Sioux City to take it the rest of the way south.
