Daffodil

Plant

Narcissus is a genus of predominantly spring perennial plants in the Amaryllidaceae family. Various common names including daffodil, daffadowndilly, narcissus, and jonquil are used to describe all or some members of the genus.

Narcissus has conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white or yellow (also orange or pink in garden varieties), with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona.

Not all our daffodils were knocked over by the heavy winds of recent days: our garden is still awash with yellow ... and white, like this daffodil.

It looks a bit 'double' because there is another one standing right behind and I didn't like to cut it off just for the photo.

"FLOWER DUET" - English Text Translation: Under a dome of white jasmine With the roses entwined together On a river bank covered with flowers laughing in the morning Gently floating on it's charming risings On the river's current On the shining waves One hand reaches Reaches for the bank Where the spring sleeps and The birds, the birds sing. Under a dome of white jasmine Ah! calling us Together! Under a dome of white jasmine With the roses entwined together On a river bank covered with flowers laughing in the morning Let us descend together Gently floating on it's charming risings, On the river's current On the shining waves, One hand reaches, Reaches for the bank, Where the spring sleeps, And the birds, the birds sing. Under a dome of white jasmine Ah! calling us Together!

Before the tulips the daffodils signal the start of springtime. The tulips are still a couple of weeks away to herald in the "Skagit Valley Tulip Festival". A flock of trumpeter swans fly by in the background.

The green leaves had been out since Christmas and I was afraid they won't make it at all. But they did give a short but pretty show this year ;-)
