More than 1 in 2 small businesses in the UK reported a cyberattack in the last 12-month period (Cyber Security Breaches Survey – official statistics). With rapid expansion of the digital world, some can fall on the dark side of a digital security divide. At Discribe Hub, we have designed a board game to observe the perceptions and biases which affect decisions about investing in cybersecurity, to inform policymakers and technology developers about the enablers and barriers to adoption of secure digital tech. Our game also provides an immersive learning environment, enabling players to examine their decision-making processes related to cybersecurity and raising awareness about best practices for secure digital futures. The boardgame has radically altered how we engage about our work, as part of UKRI’s Digital Security by Design programme, initiating dialogues rather than simple one-way dissemination of knowledge.
