Sept. 15, 1942, the U.S.S. Wasp, a United States Navy aircraft carrier, slipped beneath the waves 350 miles southeast of Guadalcanal. Hit by two or possibly three torpedoes from a Japanese submarine, the crippled ship was abandoned, then torpedoed by an American destroyer to send it to the bottom, approximately 14,000 feet below.

torpedoed by a Japanese submarine during the Guadalcanal Campaign, 15 September 1942. USS Wasp (CV-7), torpedoed a few minutes earlier, is burning in the left distance. O'Brien was hit in the extreme bow, but whipping from the torpedo explosion caused serious damage to her hull amidships, leading to her loss on October 19th 1942, while she was en route back to the United States for repairs

These express coaches din't last very long with Kelvin, indeed this one went to Eastern Counties quite quickly. In the background of the shot can be seen one of Stagecoach Glasgow's then new ALX200s. After setting up as Magicbus (not blue!), then Stagecoach Glasgow, and selling out both times, it was third time lucky for Stagecoach in Glasgow.

Grumman F3F-2, BuNo 1028, registered N26KW. This one of the very few F3F aircraft still in existence.

I believe that the markings on this aircraft are those of an F3F-2 assigned to VF-7, aboard USS Wasp (CV-7) in 1939.

The Grumman F3F was the last biplane fighter ordered by the United States military. All F3Fs had been withdrawn from operational service by the time the United States entered World War II, but some remained in use as squadron or station "hacks" after December 7, 1941.
