After removing the black paint I sanded the neck down to 4000 grit with foam backs abrasive pads then sealed with 10 coats of satin polyurethane, sanding between coats with 400 grit. Final buffing back down to 4000 grit.
The Model 235 and it's wider-wrapped contemporary, the Model 237 Aristocrat Custom Built, were set up with this kind of receiver.
It is unlike the receiver found on any other Buescher trumpet or cornet of that time; Buescher never used anything like it until one of the last redesigns of the Aristocrat trumpet, the Model T120 of the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Custom Built model horns have features absent or unavailable in the basic Aristocrat models. That included the internal dimensions of the horn; things like bore size, dimensions of the receiver and lead-pipe taper, the flare in the bell-tail and the diameter of the bell.
The Custom Built horns were also distinguished by various mechanical and cosmetic features. The most obvious distinction was the use of nickel-silver in the horns' bracing, fittings and valve slides. The nickel-silver is cosmetically distinctive, but it is also practical, it resists corrosion better than brass. It's good for places like slides that tend to trap dirt, valve oil, and other residue. The metal is harder than brass, so it also resists denting better and works well as a material for braces.
This horn has a plain brass receiver; I don't think I've seen a Model 265 with a nickel-silver receiver and lead-pipe assembly, but it may have been a option.

Lamp of brushed steel and black ABS stand with small planet picture of Brooklyn Bridge. Lamps tilts forward and can be turned on its stand. Energy saving 15 W incandescent bulb for a romantic mood. Silver transparent electric chord with elegant black foot/hand switch. Height 8'', tube diameter 5''. Uses this image. See all other pictures possible in this model.
Note the bell's rim; the bells on the Custom Built horns were made differently from those on the Aristocrat and Buescher's earlier horns. There is a flat brass ribbon running behind the circumference of the bell's rolled rim. I believe that kind of reinforcing band is called a "Krantz Ring". The bells on the Aristocrat model horns that are this horn's contemporary featured bells that lacked this ring, but had thicker rounded rims.
However this and all Buescher's trumpets and cornets of the time featured what Buescher called the "Acousta-Bell", formed using a proprietary brass formula and construction method Buescher had started using sometime in the early 1930s. Buescher claimed that the Acousta-Bell was "especially tempered by a secret process developed by Buescher research engineers" and contained a secret brass alloy known only to Buescher.

Built by Otto himself from Columbus Zona and Reynolds 853. Stainless lazer cut decals and head badge brazed with silver.
Note the nifty sideways mounted water key. Buescher used that configuration on some of its premium models; the Model 244 Custom Built trumpet that is this horns' contemporary also features them.
This horn was put together very well; it was heavy, solid, compact, and the valves were nice and tight except for, if I recall correctly, a little blow-by on one of the valves.
Carpe diem! Brand new standing clock with rust finish. The clock face features a small planet picture of a man basking in the sun holding a sun reflector under his face. Clock diameter ca. 9'', total height ca. 30''. Uses this image. See all other pictures possible in this model.
Buescher started using the bottom-sprung "pin" type valves as early as 1930.
The pins are the lugs you can see here milled or soldered to the valve's top; they fit into a corresponding groove cut into the valve casing's wall.
The action on these horns is good when the valves are in good shape; they're slick and fast.
