This fabulous little Easter egg is the Cuban Tody and like a good Easter egg hunt we had to really search for this colorful beauty before we found it. The Cuban Tody, I am told, is a pretty common bird across the island but for whatever reason we only found them when we really looked for them, I can’t remember just stumbling across any during our visit.

I hope this precious little bird brightens everyone’s day as much as it does mine. Happy Easter!

Valle de ViƱales lies between the low mountain ranges of the Cordillera de Guaniguanico.

Fertile valley floor and impassable conical karst mountains, the "mogotes." Two smaller caves (Cueva de San Miguel and Cueva del Indio) just to the north, and Cuba's largest cave system, the Caverna de Santo TomƔs, with a length of 46 km.

Important tobacco farms, Casa del Veguero, where you can learn about tobacco products and how Cuban cigars are rolled.

This little bird with the jaunty tail is another species endemic to Cuba. Found in scrubby bush in coastal areas.

A black Bullfinch endemic to Cuba and commonly found in woodlands with fruit-bearing trees.

This is another shot of Cuba's national bird, the Cuban Trogon.

They are much more elusive (for me!) to see and photograph than the Tody, for example.

You can see in this image the teal green back feathers.

Shot at a much more reasonable ISO of 5000!!

Thanks for looking, etc.:)
