This geological feature extends over 10 km in het northwest of the French department of Côtes d’Armor.
In addition to its characteristic colour, the “Côte de granit rose” is dotted with chaotic clusters, the flagship of which is the customs path (Sentier des douaniers).
There are only 3 pink granite coasts in the world, one in Brittany, one in Corsica and one in China.
Why pink?
The granite is made up of 3 main minerals: mica that gives it its black colour, feldspar which gives it its pink colour and quartz which gives a grey tint.
Feldspar is usually white, except that on this coast hematite impurities have been added to the crystal lattice of feldspar.

1979 pencil drawing by Don Pearson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. It is accessible from Marble, Colorado via four-wheel drive. I was there on a high school 2 week mountain hiking camp in 1972. Returned for part of my honeymoon trip and caught the largest trout of my life in the pool below the waterfall under the mill in 1976.
