This is the new Crowther Bridge the old bridge having been destroyed by floods some years ago. It was the light reflecting under the bridge that caught my attention.
Bank Bottom Mill, later known as Marsden Mill, was from 1824 an important centre for the production of woollen cloth in Marsden, West Yorkshire, England. Originally a fulling mill, Bank Bottom Mill reached its heyday in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries under the ownership of the Crowther family, in particular John Edward Crowther, a businessman and philanthropist. However, the cloth industry declined in the late twentieth century, and production of woollen cloth finally ceased in 2003.
Crowther Hall Lock takes its name from nearby Crowther Hall. The lock, the deepest on the Montgomery Canal, rises the level 9 feet 2 inches towards Welshpool. The Lock Keeper's Cottage is a holiday let.

A setting looking to the south while taking in views of a nearby forest with mostly overcast skies and a rolling hillside off into the distance. This is at a roadside pullout along U.S. Route 64 in northern New Mexico.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in northern New Mexico with the southern Rocky Mountains. The view is looking to the northwest to the ridges and peaks with the Brazos Cliffs in the Tusas Mountains. This was at a roadside pullout along U.S. Route 64. With this image, I zoomed in a little with the focal length to center the cliffs off in the distance, while still including some foreground interest with the nearby grassy meadow and forest of evergreen trees.
The first act of awe, when man was struck with the beauty
or wonder of Nature, was the first spiritual experience.

This is a skyline of Marsden near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. In the distance, shrouded in smog from the previous nights bonfire celebrations is Bank Bottom Mill.
Bank Bottom Mill was established in 1867 by John Crowther, it was closed in 2003 and at its height employed over 1900 people.

In 1867, John Crowther established Bank Bottom Mills. Over the years, Crowther and Sons opened many mills in Marsden and the Colne Valley. In 1936, Bank Bottom covered 14 acres, used 680 looms and 43 carding machines, and employed 1900 people. It closed down in 2003. Having been absent from Flickr for the last two weeks I would like to wish all my contacts and friends a belated Happy New Year. It is fair to say that for the near future work will definitely restrict my access, so if I dissapear for a while I will be back full time in the not too distant future.
This afternoon I managed to get out with the camera for the first time this year. The event was a pre season friendly between Wakefield Trinity and Featherstone Rovers. As underdogs Featherstone ran Wakefield very close and only lost 22-18 to a late try by Max Jowett. This view sees an unidentified Featherstone Rovers forward being dragged to the ground just a yard or two short of the try line. Wakefields young forward Jordon Crowther is seen sprawled having just been shrugged off.
Thanks to Mark Walker, the Featherstone player has been identified as Jack Ormondroyd. Cheers Mark.
The image shows the central region of the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The young and dense star cluster R136 can be seen at the lower right of the image. This cluster contains hundreds of young blue stars, among them the most massive star detected in the Universe so far. Using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope astronomers were able to study the central and most dense region of this cluster in detail. Here they found nine stars with more than 100 solar masses.

Black Prince of Morley operated three standard RM-type Routemasters on local bus service in the mid-1990s. Owner Brian Crowther was a self-confessed bus enthusiast, a factor reflected both in his choice of vehicles and the universally high standard of presentation. This fictional RCL carries the company’s red and yellow colours in a style inspired by its original Greenline livery (updated 12-Apr-22).

Sitting on a near contemporary black Spotmatic SPII camera.
The Ultra Achromatic is a very rare lens, dating to around 1968. The elements are made of a combination of fluorite and crystal ("quartz fluorite"), rather than glass. It has 5 elements in 5 separate groups, with no cemented elements, as the materials used to cement elements together would reduce the lens’s effectiveness.
The use of uncoated quartz fluorite elements was designed to improve the transmission of ultraviolet rays as well as visible rays; reduce colour dispersion and minimise chromatic aberrations...all characteristics that are important to scientists using ultraviolet and infrared photography.

Manchester Cathedral. A Collegiate parish church, elevated to a cathedral in 1847. Mostly dating from C15th, incorporating some earlier fabric, altered, restored or rebuilt in the C19th first by J.P.Holden, then by J.S.Crowther and finally by Basil Champneys, who returned in 1903 to extend the facilities by Champneys and in 1934 by Sir Percy Worthington. It was damaged in WW2 (all the stained glass windows were destroyed) and was subsequently restored by Sir Hubert Worthington. Grade 1 listed. There has been an organ in the church since at least 1635, but the current "Stoller" organ (at least the fourth instrument) was built 2015-16 by Kenneth Tickell and Company, installed in 2017, with the first recital in September 2017.

Newchurch is a small countryside village in Powys, Wales, centred around St Mary's Church. Newchurch is situated northeast of Dol-y-cannau, and north of Crowther's Pool.

The house and coach house at 150 St. George Street were completed in 1889 for William Crowther, a Toronto merchant who occupied the site until 1926. The architect is unknown. The architecture is Victorian, with features of Queen Anne Revival styling. The property was acquired in 1927 by the China Inland Mission, an international organization formed in the mid 19th century to spread Christianity throughout China. The CIM added a structure to the back of the house connecting it to the coach house on the second floor, with the driveway passing underneath.
