Receiving no formal training in fashion design Sally Omeme learned to knit in the early 2000’s. It wasn’t until She attended the John Casablancas Institute in August 2011, her dream of becoming a knitwear designer was encouraged by her instructors. She knit her first collection for the John Casablancas Institute fashion show Empyrean on May 24, 2012,

As a newly emerging knitwear designer, Sally Omeme has bright hopes for the future. Never afraid to experiment using different fabrics. The entire collection for Eco Fashion Week has been created using second hand materials.

The half Granny Square - by popular request

2 easy to follow patterns (a) Multi colour (b) Single colour

given in written & diagram form, using both UK & US terminology.

For granny square lovers who also enjoy working this nifty little gem into clothing like vests, jumpers (pullovers) & skirts, to name a few, but don’t like the boxy & unflattering finish that so often result. The half granny square may be just the answer – an easy way to shape armholes, neck & hem lines or used it anyway you like…

Pattern for Crocheted Ball

You’ll need:

- yarn (any yarn will do, in this example I used a cotton/acrylic mix in three different colors)

- crochet hook (size that matches your yarn)

- washable stuffing material

- optional: bell (suitable for stuffies)

Stitches:

Ch = US/UK: chain stitch | Dutch: losse

SC = US: single crochet | UK: double crochet | Dutch: vaste

Half ball (make two):

Crochet in a continuous spiral.

Tip: mark the beginning/end of each round with a small safety pin.

- start: 2 Ch, 6 SC in first stitch (= second stitch from the hook)

- weave in tail

- 2 SC in every stitch (= 12)

- *1 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 18)

- *1 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 27)

- 27 SC

- * 3 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 33)

- * 3 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 41)

- * 3 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 51)

- 51 SC

- 51 SC

- 51 SC

- 51 SC

- * 3 SC, 2 SC in same stitch*, repeat * * (= 63)

- 63 SC

(optional: change color)

- 63 SC

- 63 SC

Now you’ve got half a ball.

Leave a long tail, which you will later use to sew the two halves together.

Finish:

Stuff both halves of the ball and sew them together.

Optional: insert a bell in the center.

Weave in tails.

Have fun!

PS: feel free to use this pattern any way you like.

Just don't claim it as your own pattern.
