“It’s not necessarily always an easy path or a well-lit path — but it’s one that is well-trafficked and worth traveling.” I recently sat down with my good friend, @thesunqueen, to talk about the connection between creativity and personal happiness. The quote above came toward the end of our chat. It's in the guts of these conversations on the connection between creativity and life that keep me going, especially when the craziness of the creative journey swallows up that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. To be profitably creative is to essentially live at the apex of perpetual uncertainty. Those that embrace uncertainty as a sign that their path is true typically stick around for the long term. I'm not trying to be trite and conceptualize what is really an emotional rollercoaster at times. Bad gigs, bad bosses, bad work, hope for something more meaningful, the climb into the grey, the vast amount of time and energy given without an immediate return. But what I hold onto - especially when in the depths of a rut - is that the creative journey and happiness are not disconnected at all. If anything - creativity is a means to meaning and not just a byproduct of trying to do something meaningful. Which also means that creativity and happiness go hand in hand.
