Once again I’m losing myself in creative freedom! This time a representation of a photoshoot just over the road from the supermarket in Penzance! It appeals to me that images can be made anywhere and of anything. Believe it or not, there is a St Ives garage door in there!

Abandoned concrete military structures stand covered in graffiti along the San Francisco coastline near the Golden Gate Bridge, reclaimed by coastal vegetation during the blue hour. These ruins are part of Battery Godfrey, one of many coastal defense installations built around San Francisco Bay to protect against potential naval attacks during the early 20th century.
The main structure features characteristic World War II-era concrete construction—thick walls designed to withstand bombardment, arched openings that once housed massive artillery guns, and multi-level platforms connected by exterior staircases. The reinforced concrete, now weathered by decades of salt air and Pacific storms, provides an ideal canvas for street artists and graffiti writers who've transformed these military relics into an evolving outdoor gallery.
Colorful graffiti covers every visible surface—tags, throw-ups, and pieces in blues, whites, reds, and other vibrant colors layered over previous work. The abandoned nature of these fortifications makes them magnets for urban explorers, photographers, and graffiti artists who appreciate both the historical significance and the creative freedom these spaces provide. Nature actively reclaims the structures, with native coastal shrubs and grasses growing across concrete surfaces and through cracks.
The dirt trail winding through overgrown vegetation leads visitors from parking areas or coastal trails to these hidden ruins. The twilight sky creates moody atmosphere—that deep blue hour light that photographers seek when shooting abandoned places. The coastal scrub typical of San Francisco's western edge—ice plant, coyote brush, and hardy grasses—thrives in this harsh environment shaped by wind, salt spray, and fog.
Battery Godfrey was part of the extensive harbor defense system protecting San Francisco Bay from the late 1800s through World War II. When long-range missiles made coastal artillery obsolete, these batteries were decommissioned and largely abandoned, becoming part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. They now serve as historical monuments, reminders of the military infrastructure that once dominated this coastline, and unintentional art spaces where urban creativity meets military history.

Powerful and well-designed icons are universally recognised. They embody products, messages, or brands without the need for written explanation. Icons can convey meaning and emotion, either on a personal level or at a brand level. Given the power they hold for your business, excellent icon design is essential.
When used correctly, icons are easily remembered and can enhance usability. However, poorly designed custom icons will have the opposite effect, creating confusion and making navigation more difficult. Where the intention of an icon is unclear, users will not know what action to take, what product is being offered, or what brand is being promoted. If users are unsure, they are unlikely to click on the icon, and this has a detrimental effect on your profits and lowers the return you gain from investing in an icon designer.
Icon design needs to consider the purpose of the icon, how it is interpreted by those viewing it, and the visual impact it has on the viewer. Consistency is another important aspect that needs to be considered. If you use inconsistent design in your icon, then it loses its universality and again creates confusion.

Join The New Zealand Internet Blackout to protest against the Guilt Upon Accusation law 'Section 92A' that calls for internet disconnection based on accusations of copyright infringement without a trial and without any evidence held up to court scrutiny. As the natural world meets the digital opportunities are opening up for artists to connect with new audiences across the world. However, with the digitisation of media the lines between use and copy have become blurred. Laws regulating the act of copying have failed to keep pace with technology and soon ISPs will be forced to take down internet connections and websites of anyone accused (not convicted) of copyright infringement. Copyright law is now having the effect of limiting artists, restricting businesses, and harming public rights. The Creative Freedom Foundation speaks for artists concerned at this trend and through Our Goals- we seek to bring Copyright Law into the 21st Century.

The Fringe of Infinity is not just any art festival. Hosted on a remote desert planet, it is renowned galaxy-wide as a showcase for the avant-garde, the pinnacle of extraterrestrial culture where the known universe's most acclaimed artists unveil their latest creations. This festival is an annual pilgrimage for aficionados of the arts, where the elite of the galaxy gather under the harsh light of twin suns to indulge in a celebration of creativity that pushes the boundaries of imagination.
Yet, this year’s festival was unlike any other. As dawn crept across the sands, attendees woke to a sight that had not been there the night before: a massive, enigmatic sculpture made of interlocking crystals. This piece appeared mysteriously, set starkly against the backdrop of the festival's otherwise meticulously curated lineup. It was not part of the planned exhibitions; no one had commissioned it, and it certainly wasn't in the program.
The festival organizers, known for their strict control and sophisticated tastes, were blindsided. Tasked with maintaining the high standards and seamless execution of the event, they suddenly found themselves outmaneuvered by an unknown artist's bold statement. To the attendees, these organizers were no longer the esteemed custodians of culture but had become mere hall monitors, scrambling ineffectually to restore order to what had become an unexpectedly vibrant spectacle.
This rogue installation challenged not only the authority of the festival's planners but also the expectations of its audience. As it stood resolute under the glaring suns, it became a focal point for discussions and debates about artistic freedom, innovation, and the true purpose of art. It was a testament to the wild spirit that the Fringe of Infinity aimed to embody, turning this year's festival into a landmark event that would be remembered for its unexpected turn towards unabashed creativity and rebellion against convention.

The New Zealand Internet Blackout is an action instigated by Creative Freedom NZ against the ludicrous copyright law to be introduced here on the 28th of February, 2009. This law change will see ISPs required to terminate internet access to indiviuals and organisations accused of copyright infringement. Not convicted, accused. Check out Russel Brown's blog post on the issue for more in depth info.
It is easy to create something dark and beautiful that doesn't mean anything nowadays. But to make something that has levels to it, that can just be enjoyed just as a lovely surface or be delved into, takes skill, work, and talent.
Because I was given so much creative freedom, as I meditated upon the project, the meditation itself suggested the meaning of the piece:
I wrote the story of a woman trapped in a butchershop warehouse, a symbol for the physical world we cannot escape.
