Today is World photography day. I know you all have a camera 📷, a smart phone camera or a film camera. So, get off your ass, create memories to share and let’s all take photographs.
These days going to the store for us is a very planned out event. Mainly because we want to ensure that we are doing all we can to #flattenthecurve and #helpstopthespread of Covid19.
We go as couple (just like an old fashioned Sunday drive) as we are getting tired of seeing the same confines of our home or the walls at work (as we are both critical government workers) since whenever the hell we we were all told to stay home, work from home if we could etc..
We go with a list as we don't want to "dilly daddle" as my mother used to tell me about coming home after school all those many years ago.. Only one of us will go into the store, mask on, list in hand, straight in and straight out. i can honestly say it saves a heck of a lot from impulse buying as we don't wander the aisles looking around to see what is on sale, new, or that we don't really need but might want. If we have a couple of stores to go to we take turns going in and getting out.
I was waiting for GP and so I grabbed my phone and with my hipstamatic app (a favourtie one of mine) put the pinhole camera on and took a shot out the front windsheild of the car as I sat and waited.
These times are something that no one has really lived through before. Sure we had H1N1 but we did not have the stay at home, work from home, people loosing their lives or their jobs on such a global scale. I think we should take photographs no matter what of we do in our daily lives for our future generations to see what we did to cope, to manage etc.. Why you can even write in a diary. Let them know that "no, you really won't need a zillion packages of toilet paper" or some tried and true recipes, some ways you mentally stayed well because of course we have to look after our mental well being as well.
I hope you all have a great day! If you are in Canada enjoy the May Two Four long weekend for what it's worth.
For anyone no matter where you are remember to wash those paws, reach out to friends and family that you can't be with and above all look after you and those in your bubble. Don't forget to create memories to share and take photographs.
When I was growing up, my dad, like many in the 60’s had a movie camera to capture life and memories. I recently came upon / scored a movie projector at a second hand shop as I found two reels of movies my dad made.
I felt like Sparky Griswold from Christmas Vacation finally looking back to the early 60’s seeing my mum alive on film and knowing my dad took these. The films were old and so the broke :-( but we managed to view them nonetheless. I am thinking of investing in one of those little scanners that does negatives and 8mm film so I can save my childhood memories. Today I decided to try to light the negative from a craft table thing I have that is white plastic and a bulb to light up what’s on the “desk” as it were. Took my iPhone and with a macro lens captured a few of the pieces. This photo however was from me filming the movie with my iPhone then taking a photo of a frame and voila I see my mum who has been dead since 1986 and me as a child enjoying a exhibition / fair.
