Smile on Saturday: Colourful Hearts

A Northwestern Crow (Corvus caurinus) high in the Empress tree.

Local estimates put the bird count on Crows in excess of 500,000 just in our small area. We have lots of Crows!

Don't let that look fool you

A gray fox in my back yard. The gray fox is the only canine in North America that can climb trees. This one had been resting in an old kids' tree house 15 feet above the ground. It watched me as I photographed it, then ran down the tree trunk and across the yard, pausing only at this moment as I caught a photo of it. These gray foxes like to live in town. In the countryside, they and their young can fall prey to coyotes. They are crepuscular, which means they are most alert and active around dusk and dawn. They grey foxes in our neighborhood help to control the populations of doves and fox squirrels.

I have probably made a hundred of these doilies over the past 30 years.

One of the things Tim and I assumed we'd shoot plenty of on this trip was lush creek scenes. While we spent plenty of time on the creeks, we came across very few that were ideal. This may have been my best creek shot of the week, and it was on the very first evening. It certainly gave me a better appreciation for those truly exceptional creek scenes, and the fact that their locations are well guarded secrets. I got wet shooting this scene, and that set the tone for me pretty much being wet the entire trip.

We had a crafting party for Ruby's birthday. Here they are beading bracelets.

a very hungry cormorant yesterday ,gorged itself silly

One of NZ's native parrots has discovered the pedal which opens the box full of nuts. We have a bird sanctuary near Dunedin which is fenced to protect the birds from their unnatural predators introduced to New Zealand by settlers from other countries. From Wikipedia: "As tree cavity nesters with a long incubation period that requires the mother to stay on the nest for at least 90 days, kaka are particularly vulnerable to predation. Stoats were the main cause of death of nesting adult females, nestlings and fledglings, but possums were also important predators of adult females, eggs and nestlings."

Thanks very much for comments, faves or invites.

Created for I Made This theme in Macro Monday HMM! :-)

Both items are crafted by me. With the help of computerized machines - a laser engraver/cutter and a 3D printer. You create the files in the computer & send them over your wireless network to the machine so it can do its thing.

The Cutting Board is a gift for my sister in law Marilyn who loves to cook. The little cube guy is for me. For now. He may well become a gift too. I always make extras in case someone comes over and likes it. I just give it to them if they like it. So I always have lots of fun stuff for them to peruse through. :-) Anyhoo..

I pre-painted some Maple wood, then engraved the words. Then the Cutting Board shape was cut from it. I used a few different colors of pink & purple paint. The glitter effect on the Cutting Board is not because of glitter, but because some of the paints had mica power inside & I added a final clear seal coat that I added some mica to. It’s multi-colored and very sparkly. :-) It’s not perfect but I’m only at this lasering thing a bit over 2 years and I’m still learning. It does look better when it’s not being examined so up close like this macro! lol.. All I see is what I’d do differently.. next time.

The little cube guy was 3D printed using sparkly gold filament. He has the cutest feet!! Not seen well in the pic. It’s hard to get it all in in just 3 inches! He’s my little helper here.. the Cutting Board needed help staying upright. That’s it. Hope you like.

Historic house in Berkeley, CA.

We moved!! Finally!! Everything is still a bit of a work in progress, but I thought I'd show off the beginnings of my lovely doll room now that we finally have internet again ^__^

I had peek in my wife’s craft room. Put a few more bits on the table, took a crafty photo then snuck away before I was caught…..Out the window and down a knotted rope with my swag bag. I drove the car in and out of quiet streets to make sure I wasn’t being followed. Once the adrenaline of this perfect crime subsided I headed back home. Walking in I acted like I had just come back from the shops. Be calm I kept telling myself. I walked in and my wife looked surprised. I thought you went upstairs to take a photo of my craft stuff. Darn it. Caught bang to rights. I would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for those pesky kids…… I think I’m getting muddled up with Scooby-Doo now :D
