A local icon for many, many years around downtown Guelph. Sam could be found outside of Dino's sports store on most days. I photographed him down by the Farmer's Market back in 2010. Through the world of crackbook, I discovered that he has recently left his earth suit. Peace to him on his next journey.

I am sure he has been photographed many, many times over the years by all of the local snappers.

The edge of my MacBook just cracked and started peeling off while I was typing notes in a meeting today. The other side has a hairline crack and looks ready to go.

It turns out there's a whole Flickr group for this: flickr.com/groups/crackedmacbook/

I'm off to the Apple Store first thing in the morning.

My macbook is falling apart! Apple at its finest!

MacBook (2nd Generation)

After 27 months.... a tearing crack that hurts me like a deep wound :\

My macbook started to crack 9 months after I bought it. Apple Support claims that the crack at the wrist area is the defect of manufacturing and could be replaced under warranty, but the plastic panel around the matrix cannot be replaced for free because they suspect I got those damages "by accident". Crack on the back side of the screen (near the thermal exhaust) was found this morning. I am still trying to convince Apple Support that those damages appeared by themselves, without any "accidents" or improper handling.

It's an epidemic sweeping the globe.

More than 400 million addicts.

50% of of those use everyday.

My New MacBook. It's the High-End of the Low-End baby Mac's. I love white btw.

My MacBook developed a crack yesterday. It took almost 2 years for it to appear; some unfortunate owners had the crack develop much earlier. It still makes me sad.

Update: I fixed it--or at least made it livable--with a bit of scotch tape. Good as new!

Disappointed: Less than a year old and part of my macbook has cracked off due to the lid design. Looking across google and flickr, doesn't seem all that uncommon either.

Just notcied it cracked, but i've read that apple fixes it really fast so i'll give them a call soon.

Another view of my cracked MacBook.

boo. the genius bar implied that my shinywhiteboyfriend cracked because I dont close it carefully enough.

I implied that he was full of poo, as i had already researched the issue a bit and saw that its been a known defect for the past couple of years.

should be fixed on wednesday ;)

Every page is a different butt with the crack in the gutter. Which is the same place that your mind went when you saw this the first time.

mac book cracked on the edges slowly cracking all the way around and breaking off

Set: Apple. Why, oh why! I've had troubles with black MacBooks since the beginning.

My Macbook is evidentally on crack - here's a closeup of the chipped off bit on the right hand side of the palmrest. It didn't 'open' until about ten minutes ago - there's been a hairline crack there for weeks.

The crack is about 3.1cm long.

Another example of Apples lack of quality control.

I Recommended the macbook to a couple of people, this crackbook belongs to my mother. Both macbooks have cracks. My mums crackbook also has the potentially faulty hard drive from Seagate (lots of reports that a certain model is prone to catastrophic failures).

Every mac laptop I've owned has had some fault or failure. The most reliable was the 366 ibook SE, which lasted three years before needing a new keyboard and a logic board (the case was also cracked around the apple detail under the screen). The Powerbook G4s being the worst (hard drive failures, RAM slots failing, Logic board failure, dangerous batteries needing replacement, faulty power leads, USB ports that didn't power external mobile hard drives).

I've got a Macbook at the moment and it'll be the last Apple I own if it fails. Although I can recommend their operating system, in all good faith I can't recommend their hardware again. It's too embarrassing. I'm not going to defend Apple again, I'm sick and tired of trying to make excuses.

I told my mum to book an appointment with a genius bar at a local Apple Retail shop. She got it fixed on the spot for free, and this was 6 months outside the standard one year warranty. I would say this was great service, but I think it was the least they could do. Microsoft offer free three year warranties with their Xbox 360s, it's time Apple did the same.

I'd bought my mum a replacement top case, incase Apple were going to be dicks. Looking at the design it came as no surprise its cracks to much, really poor design. But hey, they look great before they start falling apart!

And then one of these days I just found out that the plastic top case of my MacBook white was cracking...

I typed "cracking plastic MacBook" in Google and found out that it was a chronic problem of it.

I got very upset about it. Apple replaced it all for me, under its guarantee. Yet, I was advised not to carry my MacBook inside backpacks.

How come one cannot carry a laptop inside a backpack? :(

Much as I like my Apple MacBook in most respects, I wish it wouldn't keep on wearing through and developing cracks. I don't use it heavily, I'm careful with it, and this is the second time it's cracked -- i.e. this is the replacement top layer they only put on a few months ago.

I mean, I don't wear shirts made of sandpaper, and my wrists never wore through the (cheaper) Thinkpad I had before.

Grr.

Dogtowning it on the driveway with my bro on our first skateboard. We have longboards now but I think we'd both rather have that homemade deck in our collection now than any big name board.

This pic was taken by Dad in May of '82 and rescanned from a print recently. I thought it was a blast when I found it on Mikey's crackbook page. There's so many little hints and reminders of our childhood in here-- things I had forgotten.

That's my first Civic in the back, A 77, our "Happy Honda"... Because of growing up with it I have a lifetime thing for Hondas. Since then I think I've driven every model year of the Civic from 91 to the current 08s... Not that I was driving at the time, just riding shotgun and queueing up the 8-Track. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was one of only two tapes we had. The other one was "Country Roads".

I also see signs of our parallel development in this photo. Ultimately I chose cars as my vehicle and conveyance of choice. But he can't stand driving-- just loathes it. It's bus or longboard if there's no other ride. Course he lives in VC where there is almost (not quite) a longboarder lane. (Wouldn't that be nice? Sheez.)

same shot as the other one, just a bit clearer.

Apparently, a common problem. Mr. Ford has started a Flickr Group to raise awareness.

It seems that I am the only one in the world that has this crack in the left side of the top case.

Or not?

My macbook is falling apart! Apple at its finest!

Usei a garantia pra trocar o top case e o bottom case, que estavam rachados.

A Apple ficou mais acessível e mais quebradiça tb. :P

-----

Ive used the guarantee to change its top and bottom case, which were cracked by itself.

Apple is now more accessible and more "crackable" too.

Welcome to the club celebrative picture. This is gonna cost me a trip to a Apple Store and a uncertain amount of time to see it fixed... DAMN.

And in one hour they fixed, read the comment.

This is the place where everybody's MacBooks are cracking.

Mine wasnt an exception to this rule...
