Or it could be Station Saturday. Southbound SIRI is passing the Dubois depot and the ex B&O CPL at the south end of the siding on a nice fall day. Replacement GE's were already on the property so this was a swan song for solid sets of ex CR SD60's on the B&P.

The Cloverdale CPL stands guard at the southern end of the siding in Cloverdale, VA as manifest NS 11Z blasts by. The beautiful Virginian heritage unit leads the extremely short freight into Roanoke as a crowd of at least 12 people get their shots.

Norfolk Southern's H-Line still hosts quite a few CPL signals south of Front Royal, although for how much longer is anybody's guess. Here, northbound manifest 38Q passes one of the CPLs in the Shenandoah Valley at Vaughn, VA.

Q313, the daily Russell, KY- Cincinnati, OH manifest twists around the impressive elevated stretch of railroad that starts across the river in Covington. The CPL's are still out en masse here at CT down to KC Jct, but north of Cincinnati the signal gang has been making "progress" and it's only a matter of time before this scene is ruined.

Coal loads roll east out of Bluefield on the NS former N&W at Ingleside, West Virginia just after dawn and before the sunlight could reach into the valley, passing classic CPL's that were on short time before replacement - October 1, 2014.

This is an HDR shot made up of 5 shots taken in autobraking mode (-1.4Ev; -0.7Ev; 0Ev; +0.7Ev; 1.4Ev). A 'Gobe' CPL Polarizer Filter was used. You can read additional technical information in my profile (about section).

The CPL bracket at Lewis Run stands solemnly under a bright summer sky as these old N&W soldiers live out what is likely their final summer of service.

Back in March of 1995, a westbound on the CSX Philadelphia Subdivision was rolling through Rosedale, Maryland.

The B&O signal brackets were being prepared for replacement by line-side mounted CPLs.

B&P SIRI with a quartet of SD40-2's knocks down CP North Clarion as he enters one of three CTC islands on the railroad, each still guarded by B&O era CPL's.

Last one for the year and I thought I'd make it a current local one taken for the last dawn of 2016. Not much happened in the sky but the water motion was cool. Have a great one all , and stay safe :)

A thanks is well deserved to Jacob and Shawn for helping me pull this off

The weather most of last week was [heavy at times] rain and high winds which made shooting tough. Went out a few times during but this was a few hours after the rain finally subsided. There was supposed to be 10-15ft surf which is why I came but got a nice sunset instead.

A series of approach signals beckon a CSX southbound off of the southeast connection and into the east siding during the evening hours at Deshler. A 'slow approach' routes the train off the connection and onto the Toledo Sub mainline, while the 'medium approach' indication in the background routes the train into the east siding

The bulbs of a classic B&O CPL pierce through the darkness as they beckon Walbridge bound M506 through the interlocking at South Deshler.

A little bit of winter in July! This stunning snowy landscape was captured by photographer Daniel Tremblay in the Canadian Rockies with a Canon 5DSr, a Canon EF 11-24mm f4.0 lens and our WonderPana XL Circular Polarizer filter. Daniel used the WonderPana CPL filter to remove reflections on the water's surface, revealing the beautiful rocks beneath. Scotland has been having absolutely beautiful weather for about a month straight. In particular the East Coast, with very few clouds and very little rain - a draught, in fact. The wife and I have been kicking around little day trips to satisfy our wanderlust and we realised we've never spent much time in Dundee (also known as Fundee or Scumdee, take your pick).

The main attraction was the V&A Museum, which I failed to get images I was happy enough with, so I've got a return journey planned when the nights are shorter. Dundee was certainly... interesting... especially with the sun blazing hot and everyone half drunk in the middle of the day but it looks like a place I'd like to spend more time in anyway. I'll certainly be back!

As an afternoon thunderstorm rolls in, northbound 12Z enters the picturesque location of Arcadia, VA on a hot June day. The ancient N&W CPLs serve as a cherry on top to this scene. Unfortunately, as of today (12/03/24), they have fallen in favor of the new safetran installations. While the scene at Arcadia will always be enjoyable, it will not be the same without the Norfolk and Western sentinels.

CSX 2653 heads back to North Vernon, IN after making a set out at EE Butlerville, and picking up one coil car for eventual delivery to Seymour. Here the tiny train passes the CPL's at Butlerville Crossover (BC 67). The X over signals are slightly interesting as only the westward facing signals are CPL's while the eastward facing signal are modern colorlights. Since rail traffic runs eastbound, the only chance to shoot a train through the "good" signals heading west is with J780.

You can shoot beautiful long exposures like this with Fotodiox WonderPana filters! Photographer Brad Justice captured this breathtaking image with a Nikon D750, a Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 lens and our WonderPana 145mm CPL filter, which both cut light for a longer exposure time and removed reflections from the water and leaves for a more vibrant image.

En-route to Haystack from the summit of Warnscale. It is difficult to imagine how strong the wind was from this tranquil view! With my 6 feet 1 inch and 200 pounds frame I could lean against the wind ! :) But the climb was worth every ATP !

Still amazed at the detail you can get in a raindrop!!
