Ein Fahrschalter der Siemens-Schuckert-Werke, eingebaut im Triebwagen 107 aus dem Jahr 1936. Das Fahrzeug wurde für die Rheinische Bahngesellschaft AG, Düsseldorf, gebaut. Später war es bei der Aachener Straßenbahn- und Energieversorgungs-AG im Einsatz. Hersteller des mechanischen Teils ist die Düsseldorfer Waggonfabrik AG (DÜWAG).
This Fahrschaltwerk zur Geschwindigkeitssteuerung, or driving speed control switch assembly, was used on the Polybahn until 1996.
The Polybahn, also known as the UBS Polybahn, is a funicular railway operating out of Zürich Central-Hochschulen that carries passengers up a 41-meter rise to a terrace near the main building of ETH Zurich, which was formerly called Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum, and from which the railway derives its name. The 50-person automated car shuttles back and forth over its 176-meter track every 2.5 minutes. A one-way trip takes 100 seconds.
The mountain railway first opened on January 8, 1889. Initially water-driven--a ballast tank under the carriage was filled at the top, and empty at the bottom--it was converted to electric drive in 1897. The Zurich Mountain Railway company, after two decades of losing money, planned on shutting down the rail in the 1970's. In 1976, the Union Bank of Swizerland, then known as UBS/DBG, rescued it, creating SBG Polybahn AG. In 1990, the railway was rebuilt, with two-rail tracks using a Roman Abt point layout replacing the old three-rail tracks.
