Now the stupid and bad English language has got us speaking of two unrelated concepts as "piles": I-beams driven vertically into the earth are "H-piles" and mounds of earth are "dirtpiles." Pah!

The intersection of East 18th Street and 1st Avenue South in the Stevens Square-Loring Heights neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December 13, 2019, with Nicollet Avenue in the distance. On the right is a new mixed-use building project, Nico Apartments, 1701-1713-1735 Nicollet Avenue and 16 18th Street East, with plans for 146 dwelling units and 7,000 square feet of commercial space, being worked on by Yellow Tree Corp. and DJR Architecture.
Concrete makes its way into one of the many concrete column forms. I prefer photographing and blogging about these gentlemen to taking their place in this instance.

August also saw us putting in the second half of the east wall in our basement. After pouring the huge slab of a footing we needed we set up the ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) and had readi-mix concrete delivered by cement truck to fill it up.

The contractor has back-filled the area around the elevator pit with soil and is beginning to dig the adjacent footings. The reinforcing mesh along the foundation wall now extends all the way north to Hermann Drive.

The walls of the elevator pit are being formed now that the footings beneath have had time to cure. At the south end form work is beginning to be placed around the column cages.

The wall doesn't look very different before and after the concrete is poured in -- but concrete definitely holds up better.

Construction of the 1400 Loring (1400 Nicollet) mixed-use development project, as seen from West 14th Street and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 30, 2019.
Several one-story retail buildings and surface parking lots are being redeveloped into a 231-unit mixed-use residential community, with 10,000 square feet of first-floor commercial retail spaces, walk-up residential spaces, and 162 parking stalls in a six-story building, say the developers, ESG and Reuter Walton Development.
Building plans show the residential units include 400-square foot studios, junior one bedroom, one bedroom, and one bedroom plus den units, and larger two-bedroom units with up to 1,176 square feet.
The building consumes the following addresses: 1400 Nicollet Avenue, 1414 Nicollet Avenue, 1418 Nicollet Avenue, 1420 Nicollet Avenue, 1422 Nicollet Avenue, 12 ½ West 15th Street, 15 West 14th St, and 1409 LaSalle Ave.

Much of the TransCanada (Highway 1) within Metro Vancouver will be widened under the provincial government's Gateway Program.
The Sprott-Kensington sector will be widened to four lanes. Five lanes wide where there are merging lanes for on- and off-ramps.

Part of the fencing around the job site has a banner describing the finished building and its purpose for housing the new medical professionals at Corewell Health who are completing the required period as Residents in the hospital system. With more demand for trained professionals, less financial support by the felonious Trump administration, and fewer incoming students going through the long pipeline, this project to make housing convenient to the incoming doctors will be very welcome, indeed. It is adjacent to the "Medical Mile" that runs from the Grand River downtown in Grand Rapids and stretches to the east all along Michigan Street.

Gelukkig renovatie afgerond van ‘Bijlmerflats’ in de wijk Palenstein. 3 flats gerenoveerd , eentje heeft penthouse gekregen. Johan van Bourgondiélaan, Willem van Cleeflaan en Cornelis Boslaan. Ze hebben allemaal een andere stijl gekregen via kleuren.
