Due to limited resources and time constrain to prepare a text caption, I am simply transcribing the text prepared on the storyboard as a precursor for those interested in pursuing further research on the subject.
Fort Kuala Kedah (Kota Kuala Kedah) is the oldest Malay fort in northern Malaysia and dates from the 17th century. It was destroyed and rebuilt in the 19th century and was occupied by the Japanese troops during the Japanese occupation of Malaya in the Second World War.
Sultan Sulaiman Syah who ruled from 1602 to 1620 built the original fort from clay, bakau timber and bamboo with the assistance of his allies, the Portuguese who had established a presence in the area. The sultan ruled from his base at Fort Seputeh, which was destroyed by the Acheh Armada in 1619 (an event which resulted the Portuguese being ousted from the area) and again in 1770 by the Bugis Armada.
In 1780 to 1782, Sultan Mukarram Syah, the 20th sultan of Kedah who ruled from 1778 to 1797, rebuilt and strengthened Fort Kuala Kedah. Hafiz Sab, an architect who was also the "Maharaja Kadhi", or religious head, directed the rebuilding of the fort with labor imported from India and gave its presence look. Cannons purchased from the British and the Dutch were placed around the fort. A palace was built inside it.
The fort was attacked and destroyed in November 1821 by the powerful Siamese Armada. It occurred during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Halim Syah II, the 22nd sultan of Kedah who ruled Kedah from 1804 to 1845. The fort was his administrative center.
The fort which was also known as For Kuala Bahang (Kota Kuala Bahang), is located near the mouth of Kedah River, about 12 kilometers from the town of Alor Setar. It was designated as a historical monument and historical site under the Antiquities Act 1976 in August 1978.
This playground may face challenges like the time it will take to build, the cost to build, and some might not consider it safe enough for their children. I tried to stay within he constrains of safety, build time, and cost, but these can still be challenges that I may face building this playground.
It may be a challenge to stay within the 100 block limit and make the intricate design. The constraints regarding safety prompted me to set up barriers around the play area so that children can't easily fall off. That is also why I chose stronger materials so that the children and their parents can both safely go on the playground. The funding constrain also inhibited how much I can design.

I made several attempts at making a rigid frame that would hold the radiator and condenser safely and would bolt to the existing frame. After making allowances for cushioning and thermal expansion there was just not enough room.
So I decided to stiffen the frame that holds the hood hinges to keep it from wracking the radiator. These swedged tubes should do a lot to constrain the lateral movement of the nose tubes.

I've been thinking of what to do next when the 365 days project is done. I'm thinking of getting one of the spin-offs, where you don't necessarily have to take a self portrait each day, that's a bit too constraining.
I love frogs and I try to incorporate them into a lot of my photography. For me I try to create emotional tension in this image by placing the body of the frog in the center, and their head in the upper rule of thirds. Then the lines constraining the space of the frog. Which are all manmade, contrast with his natural shape.
Peptide stapling is a strategy for constraining short peptides typically in an alpha-helical conformation. Just a week back, on 16 April a Dalit research scholar of NII committed suicide in the institute. It came as an incident of immense shock and grief to the entire student community. It was even more disturbing to realize that it is the third such case of suicide during the tenure of the present director Prof. A. Suroli. Moreover, several suicides have happened in other premier science research institutions including IIT Bombay, IISc. Bangalore (both in Aug 2007) and IIT Kanpur (8 deaths in 5 years). Every time such incidents reflected severe depression and disappointment of the students with the institutions and their conditions. Even though the authorities are trying to sweep the entire issue under the carpet by proclaiming it to be caused by some personal trauma, we have to take the struggle for an impartial and just enquiry forward by all means. At the same time we have to ask : What after all is the social environment in these so called premiere institutes which is pushing the academically committed young scholars to such levels of depression that they are committing suicides? .
It is well known that the science research in the country, particularly laboratory based researches are often structured around corporate and project funding, leading to an extremely regimented life in labs with iron rules of results and deadlines and an undemocratic hierarchy of commands. The societal discrimination based on caste and gender get many fold magnified within such structures with women and students from deprived sections being the worst victims. Worst still, the unwritten but strictly practised code of prize and punishment by the superiors-supervisors or the authorities-sustain an atmosphere which never allow the victims to speak up without facing retribution. As a result most of the cases of victimisation come to light when the worst has already happened. In JNU itself 3 years back, we came to know of the shocking saga of harassment and victimisation of a woman research scholar from dalit community, only after she had left JNU. Even after she left JNU, the faculty continued to harass her by holding back her legitimate fellowship. While through student protests the fellowship was released, it exposed at one stroke the structural routes of violence and intimidation that is embedded in our system of science research. .
Our education system is increasingly getting funded and moulded by the corporate and business interests, who want to create, not knowledge or scientific achievements beneficial for the humanity as a whole, but mere marketable and profitable commodities, using the hard labour of our researchers. Hence, the entire scholar-community is forced by them to put in enormous amount of extra effort to satisfy their greed for profit. This not only leads to the creation of private and sellable research, but also suffocate and constrain the intellectual and personal liberty of these researchers. They are compelled to either participate in this mechanical and heartless rat-race or to be denied of all opportunities of higher science education. The scene is further dimmed by the complicit collaboration of the administrations and at least some faculty members who have direct control over the students and their futures. .
Worst of all, the majority of science researchers are denied the breathing space to think about this exploitative system in which they work and to raise their voice against it in any form. The lack of time and democratic spaces of expression, communication and dialogue and the feeling of solidarity and support that forces them to commit the most extreme step when they find themselves utterly constrained and demoralized. They are denied the democratic right to have a transparent mechanism in their research centres, where the faculty make use of their vulnerability of the students to exploit their talents and hard work. .
This situation can be changed only by introducing platforms where they can fearlessly come and raise their concerns and even the most intimate experiences of discrimination and exploitation. Can the inhuman and mechanised conditions of research produce humane and sensitive knowledge that would enable the society in its progressive paths? Can we allow regressive, hierarchical and discriminative practices to be used against our fellow-scholars in these places of their study? Can students create emancipatory results out of their research if the system is steeped in different kinds of discrimination and exploitation based on class, caste and gender? Finally, dont we need to initiate a necessary healthy dialogue between various streams of researches in order for them to be aware of each others strengths and weaknesses so as to form complementary parts of a complete whole sphere of research that would enable our society to radically transform itself? .
We believe that the undemocratic and inhuman conditions under which our scholars are forced to carry out their research need to be exposed by both the faculty and the students of science disciplines in a united voice by sharing their opinions on a larger platform where all these questions could be raised and debated upon. Only more and more such platforms can take us towards constructive steps to revitalize our higher education in general and science research arena in particular.
