My dear friend Natalie Prass releases her first full length album Today - 1/26 (in Europe), Tomorrow - 1/27 (in the US). The album is incredible and I highly recommend picking it up. The record has already received rave reviews from Pitchfork, The Guardian, Vogue, and Consequence of Sound.

Folk singer Phil Och's album cover for "I ain't marching any more".
"During the ten year span of his career, Ochs managed to pump out eight radical records, all with the same message of resistance and feelings frustration that defined the time period... Out of his legacy however, there would be one song in particular that would stand out to define a movement with a simple timeless phrase that is still relevant today.
I Ain't Marching Anymore would become the song used at countless protests and rallies during the decade that was the Vietnam War. " > consequenceofsound.net/2009/01/rock-history-101-phil-ochs...
I've really been loving the Flower Boy album by tyler the creator , So I wanted to do a creative look that was inspired by that Masterpiece !

The impeccable singer-songwriter duo of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel!! - Mike

*****
"I hear the drizzle of the rain... Like a memory it falls..."
"Kathleen Mary 'Kathy' Chitty worked part-time selling tickets at the Railway Inn Folk Club in Brentwood, Essex, UK in 1964. She became the girlfriend and muse of Paul Simon when he lived in England in 1964 and 1965. She is referred to directly or indirectly in at least four of his songs.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel’s first album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. was recorded in early 1964 and included the original acoustic version of 'The Sound of Silence'. After the recording, Simon moved to England without Garfunkel. At this time folk music was becoming popular in England and Simon started working around the English folk clubs and coffee houses.
He met Kathy Chitty on 12 April 1964 at the very first English folk club he played at, the Railway Inn Folk Club in Brentwood, Essex. She was 17, he was 22 and they fell in love. Later that year they visited the US together, touring around mainly by bus. Kathy returned to England on her own with Simon returning to her some weeks later. When he was back in London he recorded the album The Paul Simon Songbook that included 'Kathy’s Song', and had a photo of Simon and Kathy on the cover. Also included in the album was another version of 'The Sound of Silence'.
Simon & Kathy: consequenceofsound.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/594px-p...
Although Wednesday Morning 3 A.M. was initially a flop, the version of 'The Sound of Silence' on that album began to receive limited airplay, so the producer, Tom Wilson, without consulting Simon or Garfunkel, overdubbed the recording with electric guitar and bass, and drums. This new version entered the US charts in September 1965. By the end of 1965 and for the first few weeks of 1966 it was at No. 1 in the US pop charts.
In September 1965, when Simon learned of the growing success of 'The Sound of Silence' he felt the need to immediately return to the US to continue his career. Kathy was quite shy and wanted no part of the success and fame that awaited Simon. They split up.
During the separation after Kathy returned home from the American trip, Paul Simon wrote 'America' that mentions Kathy by name:
'Kathy, I'm lost,' I said, though I knew she was sleeping
'I'm empty and aching and I don't know why'
and 'Kathy, I said, as we boarded a greyhound in Pittsburgh' 'Michigan seems like a dream to me now'
During their separation he also wrote 'Kathy's Song':
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.
My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.
Simon wrote 'Homeward Bound' on the railway station at Widnes. It is also widely interpreted that this song is also about Kathy:
I wish I was homeward bound
Home, where my thoughts escaping
Home, where my music's playing
Home, where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
In 1981 Simon included a nostalgic song called 'The Late Great Johnny Ace' on his Hearts and Bones album that included a reference to Kathy:
I was living in London with a girl from the summer before.
After Paul Simon returned to the U.S. in 1965 they were not in contact for over 20 years. In 1986, during his success with Graceland he received a letter from her. In 1991, while on tour in the UK, Kathy and her family attended Simon's show in London. In July 2004 Simon confirmed her attendance at the Old Friends Reunion Tour stop in Hyde Park.
Kathy is a very private person, all attempts by the press to cajole information or her whereabouts out of Simon have failed. As far as anybody knows, she now has three grown-up children and is living in the Welsh mountains (where she has lived most of her life) working part-time at a university. Widnes Railway Station has a plaque commemorating the history of 'Homeward Bound'. When this went missing a few years ago, Kathy was invited to unveil the replacement but she declined." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Chitty

In the life of every greying European man there comes the day when he puts on his old Pink Floyd vinyls again to decide which one is the best.
Before I give you the answer I have to tell you that I’m not really qualified for this. I never listened to any Pink Floyd album after The Wall (and not planning to). So The Final Cut may include the most lovely music ever conceived by mankind but I will never know. I don’t even own The Wall. I sold it in 1982 and ne regrette rien. But I know all albums they published before that, and, hey, the whole exercise wasn’t meant to be an objective assessment, was it?
The correct answer is, and has always been, More. Not because I’m trying to be different (as part of this project I came across a fan website where this album was rated the worst of the lot) but because it contains 4 of my 10 favourite Pink Floyd songs: The Nile Song, Green is the Colour, Cymbaline and Ibiza Bar. Nothing else comes close.
Difficult to say what is number 2 but it’s certain that my sequence would continue to be against the received consensus of the experts. I know it’s blasphemy but I am the only person in the world who likes A Saucerful of Secrets (Remember a Day is another all-time favourite) more than A Piper at the Gates of Dawn (too many children songs for my taste, a gnome named Grimble Grumble, the very title of the album comes from a children’s’ book, albeit a good one). I adore Ummagumma – the second LP has lengths but its private living room recordings have inspired me when I was a teenager. Thank you for that. I even like Atom Heart Mother because “If” and “Fat Old Sun” are wonderful songs. It has the most bovine Pink Floyd record cover. And of course their most Orwellian achievement of all, Animals – the first album on which they didn’t try to be “beautiful”.
This, by the way, is my 3000th posting on flickr.
Wow! Jumping so many times is quite exhausting! Here is my companion - the Guitar Hero! But also my home - Poland! Even though I don't live there anymore, it is still my great companion. Somewhere in the Quoted challenge there was a quote- "Blossom where you're planted" Quite frankly it is easier said then done...
Photo inspired by the great image of Bruce Springsteen by Annie Leibovitz. It is of course quite poorly executed and horribly lit!!!!!!, and I won't post setup picture since it's embarassing! Just two flashes bounced off of the walls! Background quite obviously photoshopped. And it would take a lot of flashes to light background this big!
