Alon-ness (vis-a-vis loneliness) is usually hard to attain in a society constantly on the move, time-poor, too busy, and always encouraging group-think and sharing. The value of solitude, despite the now sometimes difficult circumstances, is highlighted here.
Solitude enhances self-awareness and connection to self, and dependent again on circumstances, to nature, as illustrated here in the open, which is also all about one's well-being and life integrity.
But, of course, nature is not just 'out the window' as "the environment", it is inside the room as well, its everywhere as humans are relational beings within nature.
Connectiveness to self and/or nature can be embraced through many techniques of thinking and being. One good example is through meditation, e.g. vipassana mediation (as available to check out on the net).
Please share other techniques and ways you'd like to mention in the comments.

The nature of the connection forged between humans and animals is difficult to define. Although both mammal, our minds are wired differently. Still, there are many fundamentals of the heart that are similar. Sometimes, one can establish a rapport that has its own, undefinable language; its own emotional fluidity.
It is more than mere co-existence.

I would stare at the images of Galen Rowell. Dipped in rich color, the textures almost palpable. Standing at the foothills of the Sierra its easy to see what moved Galen to create the magical images he did.
I love the microcosm feel of shots like this. Much the same way a scene is compressed and miniaturized when reflected in a water droplet. It's how I felt standing on the edge of this enormous valley. I could look out ten miles or more into the distance, but at the same time feel the tall grass blowing against my legs. Everything felt connected, unified. On this day a thunderstorm was passing off into the distance, the dark clouds adding a wonderful layer of texture to the expanse of sky. My boots were wet from the rain that had fallen on this meadow just minutes before, forming another point of connectivity. I stood here for a while taking it all in as the grass swirled around me in the wind. Yet another 'great to be alive' moment.
Must be viewed LARGE! Just type L
I know I posted a similar shot in 2010, actually I was hoping to get a cloudy sunset for this shot, unfortunately the clouds cleared out :-(
It has been quite chilly in Dubai these days, between 14 to 18 Celsius. I am not going to complain though :)
