The monastery was founded in Vydubychi in 1070 by Prince Vsevolod Yaroslavich in conformity with his vow to build a temple in case of his recovery from the wounds inflicted during hunting.
In 1070-1088 on the slopes above the Dnipro River, a six-pier five-domed St. Michael’s Church with three naves was erected. In the 15th or 16th century the temple collapsed because of flood. After the restoration in 1766-1769 the church acquired a look of a single-domed baroque structure. Partially preserved in it were graffiti, frescoes, and mosaics of the 11th century – fragments of the composition Doomsday and ornamental patterns.
Here at the turn of the 18th century Colonel M.Miklashevsky from Starodubsk erected a stone five-domed St. George’s Cathedral and the Refectory Church of the Saviour (1686-1701), and Hetman D.Apostol – the belfry (1727-1733) designed in Ukrainian Baroque.

Here is a re-edit of a photo taken back in December of 2016. Since then, the UP 1963 has been repainted into Union Pacific's "Armour Yellow" paint scheme, just as most of their other fallen flags have. In this photo, the UP LSB50 (now the LSB54) is passing over the Embarras River at Villa Grove. They are departing north to do work at several industries and interchanges between here and Yard Center in Chicago.

Beneath her rebellious look, this young woman isn’t merely trying to shock ... she’s asserting her presence in a world that often demands conformity.
Her punk style becomes both armor and voice, a way to express that universal youth quest for identity, meaning, and freedom.

The 1950s was the decade that started on January 1, 1950 and ended on December 31, 1959. During the early 1950s in Europe the 'reconstruction' started and in the United States manufacturing and home construction was on the rise as the American economy was on the upswing. The Korean War and the beginning of the Cold War created a politically conservative climate. The Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States played out through the entire decade.
Conformity and conservatism characterized the social mores of the time. The 1950s in the developed western world are generally considered both socially conservative and highly materialistic in nature.
The beginning of decolonization in Africa and Asia occurred in this decade and accelerated in the following decade of the 1960s.

To Prologue of the Story "The Doors"
Free from the suffocating conformity of her past world, she marveled at the liberated realm she had discovered. The societal norms that had once bound her like chains now dissolved into mere wisps of vapor, revealing a vibrant and eccentric world where individuality flourished without judgment. Questions that had haunted her previously now seemed trivial, like echoes from a distant dream.
In this new reality, she reveled in the absence of societal expectations and the freedom to explore her own desires and beliefs. The constant bombardment of opinions and judgments from the masses, which had once plagued her thoughts, vanished into oblivion. Instead, she found solace in the profound connection she forged with her own inner voice.
The constructs that had once defined her every move — the endless rules, the bizarre limitations, and the arbitrary boundaries —seemed like relics of an oppressive regime now a distant memory. She marveled at how people had blindly accepted these artificial constraints, allowing them to dictate their thoughts and actions.
The weight of others' opinions, which had once weighed heavily upon her shoulders, now lifted as though they had been carried away by the ethereal winds. The suffocating pressure to conform to an ill-defined and ever-changing social norm was gone, replaced by a sense of liberation and self-discovery.
Amidst the mesmerizing symphony of strings and cascading melodies, her senses soared to unimaginable heights. As she immersed herself in the graceful movements of the stranger’s body, a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues and ethereal impressions exploded before her eyes. The boundaries between the known and unknown blurred, giving way to an unrestricted exploration of a world where questions and limitations ceased to exist.
Within this newfound realm, the music consumed her, dissolving the trivial distractions that once cluttered her mind. The beauty and perfection of This Enigma, in its celestial dance, became the focal point of her being, eclipsing all preconceived notions and social norms. The age-old debate of human decency, plastic surgery, and societal expectations melted away, leaving only an unbridled appreciation for the perfection of form.
With each passing chord, the enchantment grew stronger. Time seemed to stand still as she reveled in the harmony of movement and sound, oblivious to the outside world. Questions of identity, purpose, and morality faded into insignificance, replaced by an overwhelming sense of tranquility and fulfillment.
In this realm of boundless beauty and peace, she discovered a freedom that transcended all earthly constraints. The body became a canvas upon which the universe painted its masterpiece, a testament to the infinite creativity and wonder of existence. And in the embrace of this celestial symphony, she found solace and liberation, a sanctuary where the superficiality and trivialities of the mundane world held no sway.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Livingston_Seagull
Jonathan Livingston Seagull, written by Richard Bach, is a fable in novella form about a seagull learning about life and flight, and a homily about self-perfection. It was first published in 1970 as "Jonathan Livingston Seagull — a story." By the end of 1972, over a million copies were in print, Reader's Digest had published a condensed version, and the book had reached the top of the New York Times Best Seller list, where it remained for 38 weeks. In 1972 and 1973, the book topped the Publishers Weekly list of bestselling novels in the United States. In 2014 the book was reissued as Jonathan Livingston Seagull: The Complete Edition, which added a 17-page fourth part to the story.
Plot
The book tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a seagull who is bored with daily squabbles over food. Seized by a passion for flight, he pushes himself, learning everything he can about flying, until finally his unwillingness to conform results in his expulsion. An outcast, he continues to learn, becoming increasingly pleased with his abilities as he leads a peaceful and happy life.
One day, Jonathan is met by two gulls who take him to a "higher plane of existence" in which there is no heaven but a better world found through perfection of knowledge. There he meets other gulls who love to fly. He discovers that his sheer tenacity and desire to learn make him "pretty well a one-in-a-million bird." In this new place, Jonathan befriends the wisest gull, Chiang, who takes him beyond his previous learning, teaching him how to move instantaneously to anywhere else in the Universe. The secret, Chiang says, is to "begin by knowing that you have already arrived." Not satisfied with his new life, Jonathan returns to Earth to find others like him, to bring them his learning and to spread his love for flight. His mission is successful, gathering around him others who have been outlawed for not conforming. Ultimately, the very first of his students, Fletcher Lynd Seagull, becomes a teacher in his own right, and Jonathan leaves to teach other flocks.
Part one
Part One of the book finds young Jonathan Livingston frustrated with the meaningless materialism, conformity, and limitation of the seagull life. He is seized with a passion for flight of all kinds, and his soul soars as he experiments with exhilarating challenges of daring aerial feats. Eventually, his lack of conformity to the limited seagull life leads him into conflict with his flock, and they turn their backs on him, casting him out of their society and exiling him. Not deterred by this, Jonathan continues his efforts to reach higher and higher flight goals, finding he is often successful but eventually he can fly no higher. He is then met by two radiant, loving seagulls who explain to him that he has learned much, and that they are there now to teach him more.
Part two
Jonathan transcends into a society where all the gulls enjoy flying. He is only capable of this after practicing hard alone for a long time and the first learning process of linking the highly experienced teacher and the diligent student is raised into almost sacred levels. They, regardless of the all immense difference, are sharing something of great importance that can bind them together: "You've got to understand that a seagull is an unlimited idea of freedom, an image of the Great Gull." He realizes that you have to be true to yourself: "You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way."
Part three
In the third part of the book are the last words of Jonathan's teacher: "Keep working on love." Through his teachings, Jonathan understands that the spirit cannot be really free without the ability to forgive, and that the way to progress leads—for him, at least—through becoming a teacher, not just through working hard as a student. Jonathan returns to the Breakfast Flock to share his newly discovered ideals and the recent tremendous experience, ready for the difficult fight against the current rules of that society. The ability to forgive seems to be a mandatory "passing condition."
"Do you want to fly so much that you will forgive the Flock, and learn, and go back to them one day and work to help them know?" Jonathan asks his first student, Fletcher Lynd Seagull, before getting into any further talks. The idea that the stronger can reach more by leaving the weaker friends behind seems totally rejected.
Hence, love, deserved respect, and forgiveness all seem to be equally important to the freedom from the pressure to obey the rules just because they are commonly accepted.
Part four
In 2013 Richard Bach took up a non-published fourth part of the book which he had written contemporaneously with the original. He edited and polished it and then sent the result to a publisher. Bach reported that it was a near-death experience which had occurred in relation to a nearly fatal plane crash in August 2012, that had inspired him to finish the fourth part of his novella.[1] In February 2014, the 138-page Bach work Illusions II was published as a booklet by Kindle Direct Publishing. It also contains allusions to and insights regarding the same near-death experience. In October 2014, Jonathan Livingston Seagull: The Complete Edition, was reissued and includes part four of the story.

Words such as "autism" and "narcissism" are in such frequent and unspecific use these days that I am getting suspicious. These are labels (actually, umbrella terms with a whole range of meanings underneath) and my suspicion is that they are a device not to engage with a controversial substance matter. Conformity is not a virtue in a democratic society. Sony A7iii, 2x teleconverter, Helios 44M-7.

Harvey Milk was born on May 22, 1930, in Woodmere, New York, into a Jewish middle-class family shaped by strong civic values and social conformity. He studied at the State University of New York at Albany and later served in the United States Navy during the Korean War era, an experience that exposed him to rigid institutions and the limits of personal freedom. For years he lived on the East Coast, working in finance and commerce while remaining largely closeted, caught between professional expectations and his true identity. In the early 1970s he moved to San Francisco, where settling in the Castro District transformed his life. He opened a small camera shop that quickly became a meeting place for the LGBTQ community, a space for dialogue, solidarity, and political awakening. Milk understood that discrimination was systemic and that visibility could be turned into a political force. He encouraged gay men and lesbians to come out, believing that personal courage could dismantle collective fear. After several unsuccessful campaigns, he built broad alliances among LGBTQ citizens, workers, small business owners, and progressive movements. In 1977 he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man elected to public office in California. In office, he worked to pass anti-discrimination laws protecting people in employment, housing, and public services, while also supporting labor rights and marginalized communities. Milk’s approach rejected mere tolerance in favor of equality and political responsibility. His growing influence and symbolic power made him a target for conservative forces and those threatened by social change. On November 27, 1978, he was assassinated inside San Francisco City Hall by former supervisor Dan White, who shot him at close range after killing Mayor George Moscone. Milk’s death exposed deep injustices within political and judicial systems and shocked the nation. His legacy endures as a symbol of courage, visibility, and democratic participation, demonstrating that representation can protect lives and that silence imposed by power is itself a form of violence.I publish these images with the biographies of these individuals to remind, especially younger generations, that the rights we have today were never freely given but won by real people who paid with their lives. Men and women who chose dignity, freedom, and justice even when it meant exposure, isolation, persecution, or death. In a world where human rights are still violated every day, remembering their stories is not passive memory, but an act of conscience, responsibility, and resistance.
"Conformity"
Around sunset, I was walking towards a nature park with my camera when I spotted this repetitive architectural design with striking shadows hitting the walls. It suggested to me the struggles with striving for conformity while cast in the shadows of lost independence. Getting a good angle to highlight the repetitive design was a bit tricky, but ultimately I went with this angle.

Bon voyage...
Conformity heading out of Sharpness, a throwback to August as at the moment all the comings and goings seem to be in the hours of darkness.
The vessel CONFORMITY (IMO 9370288, MMSI 232035972) is a General Cargo Ship built in 2007 (18 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of United Kingdom (UK). Her length overall (LOA) is 88.6 meters and her width is 12.52 meters.
The totalitarianisms of the past are certainly different from what is currently becoming the wider context of our lives: surveillance capitalism. One of the main differences is that old-fashioned totalitarianism used, among other means, physical violence to enforce conformity, whereas surveillance capitalism delivers conformity via digitally manipulated information directly to our brains. Do we even know the choices we have not made?

A busy day that was filled with training sessions and meetings; it wasn't exactly a fun day but I suppose it served as an introduction to tomorrow, which will be more of the same.
But if I managed to get through tomorrow, I'll be free from the office for three days since Friday is my day off. So fingers crossed that the day won't drag on and on!
I was able to get out for a few minutes over the lunch break and this little sprout coming up from the concrete caught my eye.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.
