So today ‘tis the day of the poet?
We all are, if we only but know it.
Shalt be rhyming couplets and not vulgar prose,
bring forth swains in their wigs and their hose?
Whilst fair maidens do blush, faith to swoon,
at such love springing forth under moon.
Are ‘tis pleasant, is it not,
to reminisce of times we forgot.
Let’s remember those good old days,
and let evil pass in the haze.
Let’s not be bitter at all that went wrong.
It’s been wasted in some old, lost song.
The future is bright, it is orange.
(How fortunate we botanists have sporange)!
And so with light heart to the Census,
with cold questions that file and condense us.
To calculate our better life,
Away from all troubles and strife.
Housing, education and health for us all,
hark to the rallying call.
Lapsed Christians, Eco Warriors and Jedi.
Oh what fun now comes to you and I.
But what of those now that are homeless?
Shall we continue to shun all the hopeless?
Nameless shirkers, drunkards, dope and pox filled with AIDS,
they spoil all our towns, streets and parades.
And the woman with that snivelling kid.
Complaining of what that man just did.
When will our councils stop it?
Come, we’ve filled in our little chit.
It so ruins our nice light symmetry.
As we sit here penning our poetry.
