Eva
One of the earliest examples of a Victorian fast steam launch. She was designed and built by John I Thronycroft at Chuch Wharf, Chiswick. Of steel construction and with a non-condensing single-cylinder engine, she was one of the fastest launches of her day with a top speed of 16.5 miles per hour - fast enough to keep up with the rowing eights!
Originally built as an umpire's launch for Henley Royal Regatta, Eva has also spent many years in private ownership, where the saloon was added and the steering position relocated. The inevitable consequences of age meant that she fell into disrepair, and in 1968, she was rescued by Graham Lindsay, who started her restoration. This was carried out over many years by several different organisations, including Thornycroft's, Historic Steam Ltd., and Stanley and Thomas, Windsor.
Eva took part in the 150th Anniversary celebrations of Henley Royal Regatta in 1989 and finally came to rest at the River & Rowing Museum in 1996.
Eva's importance has been recognised with a place on the United Kingdom's National Register of Historic Vessels.

Grabbed a quick shot of some of the cooling equipment outside terminal 5 at Heathrow. You always get funny looks from people when you shoot subjects like this, but worth putting up with it methinks.
Today was a lazy day. I was working in the morning... so early... and I thought that I needed a coffee... but I didn't have time...
In the afternoon I was doing some selection of my favourite pics and... I remembered that I wanted coffee in the morning, and I have condensed milk... so i maked a nice coffee (without caffeine, of course) with condensed milk in my nice vintage cup.

About Sapa Valley
Sapa, is a frontier town and capital of Sa Pa District in the Lao Cai province in northwest Vietnam. It is one of the main market towns in the area, where several ethnic minority groups such as Hmong, Dao (Yao), Giay, Pho Lu, and Tay live. Sa Pa District is located in Lao Cai Province, north-west Vietnam, and 380 km north-west of Hanoi, close to the border with China. The Hoang Lien Son range of mountains dominates the district, which is at the eastern extremity of the Himalayas. This range includes Vietnam's highest mountain, Fan Si Pan, at a height of 3142m above sea level. The town of Sa Pa lies at an altitude of about 1650 m. The climate is moderate and rainy in summer (May—August), and foggy and cold with occasional snowfalls in winter.
Sa Pa is a quiet mountain town and home to a great diversity of ethnic minority peoples. The total population of 36,000 consists mostly of minority groups. Besides the Kinh (Viet) people (15%) there are mainly 5 ethnic groups in Sapa: Hmong 52%, Dao 25%, Tay 5%, Giay 2% and a small number of Xa Pho. Approximately 7,000 live in Sapa, the other 36,000 being scattered in small communes throughout the district.
I caught this freshly just off the Notting Hill Gate Station. It was striking with the narrow condensed lettering. Amazing details and clever use of space.
This was a recurring carpet pattern in the Denver convention center. I thought it was especially appropriate for the March Meeting with the lattice and the circles around lattice points reminiscent of atomic orbitals. The color balance is off; this section of the carpet was a kind of sky blue.
