Usually Dippers live beside flowing waters. This one is spending it's winter on the shores of a lake. The lake has iceless area because of the the condensing waters of a nearby peat power plant.
Condensed dew on spider web forming rosary-like strings, perhaps nature's way to throw a Hail Mary at us asking for protection.
The size of these condensing pipes amazes me. This mine really produced a lot of mercury if it used these seven, two story condensing pipes. I just imagine the flow of liquid metal at the bottom of the pipes. And I wonder why the top on one on the left is angled instead of round. So much human ingenuity to produce a poison that helped trigger weapons.

This was the surprise of the series. I had made my panorama (previous in the photostream) my desktop wallpaper. The sofware compressed the pano into a typical 3 by 4 ratio shot. What resulted was an increase in information in the "squished" space. Squished is a technical term, by the way. =^) Try it large, there are some interesting rain forms at the bottoms of the clouds.
No, it didn't actually LOOK like this: 1st, it's compressed horizontally. 2nd, I modified the levels (especially light and dark areas) to bring out the color. If you look at the more ORANGE sunset, that's more like it really looked. Even then, I had my camera on the CHROMA setting, which gives a more saturated tone to the photo.
It is no longer as fresh as new green foliage, but effortlessly glowing with its age-condensed elegance. “Grow old with me! The best is yet to be.” I heard a gentle whisper in my ear.
Condensation on the inside of my water bottle. Explored! Thanks.

It took me an hour walking about in the pitch dark this morning before I settled on this spot above Glynde. After about three hundred thousand frames of time-lapse my shutter finally broke. Waah :(

Ex-GWR condensing '97XX Class' 0-6-0P/T 9700 at Old Oak Common, in August 1958.
These were designed to work over the Metropolitan and 'Widened Lines' via Paddington to the subterranean goods depots at Smithfield. The water feed pump seen here was necessary, as the condensed steam in the side tanks made the water too warm for conventional injectors to operate..
The loco had entered service - as 8700 - in 1931, and was renumbered in 1934. It was withdrawn in October 1963, and scrapped in December. No examples were preserved.

Epic super wide vertorama of the amazingly cool IM cooling tower. Just being inside it made me much happier.. and I was pretty happy to begin with :)
Didn't get this one on my last visit due to taking too long under the tower. Always good to do a return visit.

The surfaces of the trees closest to the direct salt spray at Point Lobos are often covered with a bright orange growth. This is Trentepohlia aurea v. polycarpa, a green alga which is rich in beta carotene, giving it a bright orange color. It, too, is nonparasitic and can be found growing on rocks and downed wood along the trail. Both the alga and the lichen condense moisture from the fog and sea spray. Excess moisture drips down into the rootzone of the trees and provides extra water during the dry season.

Eberbach Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery near Eltville am Rhein in the Rheingau, Germany. On account of its impressive Romanesque and early Gothic buildings it is considered one of the most significant architectural heritage sites in Hesse, Germany. In the winter of 1985/86 the interior scenes of The Name of the Rose were filmed here.
Eberbach was founded in 1136 by Bernard of Clairvaux as the first Cistercian monastery on the east bank of the Rhine, on the site of a previous monastic foundation of Adalbert of Mainz, which had been occupied at first by Augustinian canons and then by Benedictine monks, which had however failed to establish itself.
Eberbach soon became one of the largest and most active monasteries of Germany. Eberbach Abbey was also very successful economically, principally as a result of profits from the cultivation of vineyards and the production of wine.
The abbey suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years' War, beginning with the attack of the Swedish army in 1631. Many valuable items from the church and the library were looted, and the monks were forced to flee, of whom only 20 returned in 1635 to begin a laborious reconstruction.
The 18th century however was a period of great economic success: surviving accounts show that the abbey profits were regularly invested on the Frankfurt money market.
The final decline set in with the French Revolution. The abbey was dissolved on 18 September 1803.
Today, Eberbach is a winery and special event center.
