PRAFDA
Hoogerwerf en Van Vulpen leerden elkaar eind jaren zeventig kennen op de afdeling grafische vormgeving van de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag (KABK). Die afdeling had met illustere voor gangers als Piet Zwart, Paul Schuitema en Paul Citroen een grote naam, maar was een enigszins in zichzelf gekeerd modernistisch instituut geworden dat nog nauwelijks aansluiting vond bij de creatieve impulsen die rond 1980 ontstonden uit de jeugdcultuur. De generatiekloof tussen de oudere docentengarde en jonge studenten leidde ertoe dat Van Vulpen en Hoogerwerf buiten de academie om, in de praktijk, aan de slag gingen.
Beïnvloed door punk en new wave, en met een do-it-yourself mentaliteit begonnen ze in 1981 met Hein Westerouen van Meeteren het tijdschrift PRAFDA, een verbastering van het Russische staatspartijblad Pravda, dat als 'waarheid' of 'waarachtig' vertaald kan worden. Het was een ironische knipoog naar het idee dat er maar één waarheid binnen maatschappij en ontwerpland zou bestaan. Later dat jaar openden ze hun eigen winkel in de Prinsestraat. In deze conceptstore avant la lettre konden hun zelfgemaakte objecten worden gekocht. Afstuderen moest toen nog gebeuren. De mannen liepen stage bij elkaar in de winkel, wat tot verbijstering leidde bij de docenten.
Hoogerwerf and Van Vulpen met in the late 1970s in the graphic design department at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. The department enjoyed a strong reputation, with illustrious former instructors such as Piet Zwart, Paul Schuitema and Paul Citroen, but had become a somewhat inward looking institution with little connection to the creative impulses sparked around 1980 by various youth cultures. The generation gap between the mostly older teachers and young students led Hoogerwerf and Van Vulpen to set up practice outside the academy.
Influenced by punk and new wave, and with a DIY mentality. in 1981 they teamed up with Hein Westerouen van Meeteren to launch the magazine PRAFDA. The title, a corruption of the Soviet State newspaper Pravda (Russian for Truth'), was an ironic commentary on the notion that there is a single truth within society and the design profession.
Later that year they opened their own shop in the Prinsestraat. A precursor of the concept store, it stocked their handmade objects. Prior to graduation, the two men did their internships in their own store, to the bewilderment of their teachers.

In September 1990, Carla Sozzani, former fashion editor and publisher, opens Galleria Carla Sozzani for photography, art and design in a converted garage at n° 10 Corso Como in Milano.
It is gradually joined by a Bookshop and a garden café.
A year later in 1991, 10 Corso Como opens its doors. Named after the street address, the industrial building is designed by American artist Kris Ruhs.
A radical new union of culture and commerce, 10 Corso Como promotes slow shopping through a succession of spaces and events that reflect lifestyle over object acquisition.
