A mallard drake powering up the pond towards me as I left to go home. This was the last in-focus shot of the morning. I threw out over a hundred failed attempts at flight captures.

A tri-colored heron looks intently into the mangrove waters for its next meal.
You can tell by the ripples in the water and the drop of water at the end of the beak that this heron had just unsuccessfully tried to spear something in the water.
… this guy is busy cleaning up a scratch from the top of his left forearm. Kept at it until satisfied, despite the horrible faces his younger ‘cousins’ were pulling on the other side of his window.
He then turned his back and walked away in a most dignified way, completely ignoring his unruly audience.
A Black Crowned Night Heron hiding in the dark during the day. This species is most active at night hunting for fish.

A re-process of a favorite eagle image taken at Smith Rock in evening light. This eagle came slashing through the trees with a fierce look of determination in its eyes.

It was concentrating on finding a meal and didn't notice me get very close.

Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris) juvenile
A look back to this day in 2020. The three chicks were just out of the nest, this one had ventured further then the other two and was concentrating on getting its balance on this branch.
A very alert Grey Heron hunting on the river Coquet. This Heron was on the weir very close to the main road and wasn't cocerned at all by my presence.
