Beautiful birds, but very destructive! They are usually in large flocks and eat fruit, dig up bulbs, break the shoots off trees, etc.

They are intelligent birds and learn to talk when kept as pets! Most commonly, they are taught to say, "Hello Cocky".

I love the way they always seem to look you in the eye.

This juvie male Common Eider was sitting off the end of the jetty in a hard spot to get good light, and I must have made a hundred or more captures of him as he bobbed about in the waves. I crouched next to the seaward side of the horn tower to keep from being silhouetted while I made these captures, and stayed there for about an hour where I was sheltered from the 30 knot winds. I decided it was probably a good idea to head for home after the Coast Guard send out a boat to check on me. It seems they must have become concerned during the time I was hidden from view behind the horn tower foundation, and came out to make sure I was OK.

The book store Marshie. The bird feeders near the old Friends of the Great Swamp (FROGS) book store likely attracted good quantities of mice and voles when the "Friends" occupied the building and maintained the feeders in front of the store.

However, now that the Friends building has been bulldozed by the NPS those "good old days" are over, but this marshie still drops by to check things out since it used to be such a good place for lunch.

let me tell you a little story about this picture. As you can see in my photo stream there is a picture called: generations.(it's also attached to the comment list here) Someone from the Russian company 'life factor' saw it and asked my permission to use it for their work against cancer. In this picture you can see my picture hanging on the wall to support their stand on a congress. I'm so proud that my work is helpful. It's so great that it is used in this way!!!!! I'm trying to keep my binders to a minimum on my desk.

For the supply teacher, which I still have to update, I keep copies of student lists (I need to take photos of students to put on these lists), emergency procedures including anaphalaxis, children with medical issues, maps of the school and fire routes, duty details, my rules, schedule, list of staff members, and emergency lessons (e.g. word searches and games).

My assessment binder also contains ministry documents, IEP's, long range plans, phone calls and notes, and report card comments (listing). I'm sure I've got more in there and just can't remember at the moment. lol

Friday was dominated by the fact that it rained from the moment I got out of bed to the moment I got back in it. I'm absolutely convinced that this is to be our lot this summer and even the sun has rain coming out of it.
