Project 52 - Week 39 - Theme Comic Relief."

"LOOKING for adventure...then come join the Boy Scouts of America"!

I had a whole lot of fun with this week's theme thanks to my best prop... My son! He always makes me laugh and that's a good thing! I enjoyed learning more in PS when it came to editing and that's what these challenges are for! To learn and have fun at the same time!

Happy Day's to you all!

This one actually came out pretty close to my artistic vision. That's the test of a good creative tool... how quickly and easily can it take what is in your head and put it on the page? Comic Life passes with flying colors.

Continuing this week's theme of comic book covers.

I have the job of scanning a batch of magazines and comics for auction on www.ebay.co.uk under the seller name of the_genies_cave. Not having handled a comic for about forty five years I realised that they were quite arty and I thought that they might have a wider interest. Further, I discovered a Flickr group dedicated to comics! I don't know much about the dates of some of these but I hope you enjoy the colourful nature and design.

TRIUMPH at TREBLINKA.

by Gary Friedrich; illustrated by Dick Ayers (pencils) & John Severin (inks).

New York, Bard Publishing Corporation [ie Marvel Comics), march 1968. issued as Sgt.Fury And His Howling Commandos 52.

a stupid story no matter how one looks at it but, wait, what's this amongst the ads?

in the mid-to-late'6os, Frank Zappa wrote, collaged, drew & pasted up a series of ads for albums that ran in several of the comics of the period (unknown where all they may've appeared). it seems to me that these may predate the Columbia Records Club ads that began occluding double-page spreads in comics with gluts of "pop" music (& which, to my memory, never seemed to have any Mothers albums included amongst the rabble). if true, it lends credence to the claim that Zappa was the first artist to utilize comics as an obvious demographic in which to advertise rock'n'roll.

CLEANS & THRILLS YOU!"

WOW!

if i didn't already own the stuff, i'd run right out & "buy all of these products

NOW!"

[note 1967 date & New York address: this'd've been made during Zappa's residency at the Garrick Theatre.]
