Divine Comedy 2010
July
Director: Iwan Wyrypajew
Vyrypajev’s work is a monologue of a 63-year-old man who for reasons unknown murders, quarters, and devours his victims. In this production, his part is performed by a frail and beautiful young actress. The confession of the monster becomes something to the like of a musical score, spoken out, suggestively chanted into a microphone. In Wyrypajew’s project, the contrast between the crime and innocence, pathology and charm builds the basic tension. Karolina Gruszka does not play the murderer, nor does she get at the character with any psychological or emotional skeleton key. She remains in counterpoint to the protagonist; she does not try to understand, explain or defend him. Nearly all the time she spends standing in the same place, changes her costume only once, and speaks out the entire text on what nearly seems a single breath. She is the soloist of a theatrical orchestra. A woman who has been possessed by a dybbuk. Something is speaking through her, something is singing through her. Her words are to hurt the spectators, having done no harm to her. The audience believe that what we hear is a prayer from hell.

Hard on the heels of the latest Supreme Court ruling comes a dramatic comedy about love, marriage and being desi gay.
Keshav and Naveen share all things Indian. Language, food, and upbringing but one member of this romantic couple is blonde blue eyed and Caucasian, making for some awkward and hilarious family dynamics.

Went to see Kathy Griffin (the comedienne) at the Nokia Theater (used to be the old Astor movie theater) on Wednesday night. She was awesome. :) Had really great seats, about 7th row left side. However I still needed a zoom for pictures, hence the blurriness :(
Some laughs and a great evening out were had on Oct. 13, 2011, when COPE 378 and United Way's Campaign Labour Committee presented the United Way - Comedy Fun Raiser featuring comedy performers Ardell Brophy and the Laff Riot Girls at Lafflines Comedy Club in New Westminster.
Approximately 200 people attended the event. The evening raised approximately $8,000 from ticket sales, silent and live auction items.
A big thank you to Ardell Brophy and her Laff Riot Girls (Ardell is a member of our Campaign Labour Committee). All of the comedians donated their time and Lafflines Comedy Club donated 100% of ticket sales to this event.
Joey Hartman, President of the Vancouver and District Labour Council and member of both the Labour Committee of the Board and the Campaign Labour Committee of United Way of the Lower Mainland, gave greetings and thanks on behalf of United Way.
