Valentine CollageBook contains instructions on love. It is built on business card sized pages cut from postcards supplied by UPPERCASE Magazine (they tuck a couple art card advertisements inside each issue). The book started as the model I made in the January “Slipknot Binding” workshop taught by calligrapher Carol DuBosch. It is bound with hemp cord.

60 sheets each or 120 pages counting front & back

 

each book is made from 32lb. ivory paper, black waxed linen thread (with coptic stitch binding) and elastic; purple cover is made from venus violet paper, cardboard and black waxed linen thread; black cover is made from black kraft paper and cardboard

 

both of these books are made with 15 signatures of 2 pages so that the book is thicker where the binding is... this will give the book "room to grow" as collage is put in

 

also, the elastic used for this project was originally white, so i soaked it in 1 part black acrylic paint and 2 parts water for about 6 hours... when it was completely dry, i stretched the elastic to get rid of any stiffness
