Cold Waves III - September 26-27, 2014
What an awesome event. Find info about what it's all about here:
Otherwise, it was great capturing a bunch of my favorite bands over the weekend in Chicago, no less. The main reason I went was for Front 242, but was lucky to catch Die Krupps, Author & Punisher, and many more.
Every photo shot with a Canon 6D and a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 - mostly at ISO10000+. Really not a ton of post other than some very slight noise reduction and color balancing.
It has been freezing for a couple of days/nights in a row, freezing canals up. As the coldwave (at least 10 consecutive frosty days) lasts until today, I decided to go out and get my share of Frozen Canals.
Amsterdam has been called the "Venice of the North" for its more than one hundred kilometres of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. The three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the grachtengordel. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings. From: wikipedia, this article also features information on this particular canal; Prinsengracht
Amsterdam (pronounced /ˈæmstərdæm/; Dutch [ɑmstərˈdɑm]) is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The city, which had a population (including suburbs) of 1.36 million on 1 January 2008, comprises the northern part of the Randstad, the sixth-largest metropolitan area in Europe, with a population of around 6.7 million. Preparing the ice for a race, terrace, ice discotheque or just improving the quality?

A very rare scene, ice skaters on the canals of Amsterdam. But after a cold wave of 10 days with temperatures far below zero it became reality. The last time it was possible to skate on some of the Amsterdam canals was in 1997. Will we have to wait another 15 years to take these photos?

Abe Vigoda's guitarist/keyboardist Juan Velazquez is an ardent admirer of fake fog and 80s-style video montages. When you watch the band's Room 205 episode, it will all make perfect sense.
BIO
Abe Vigoda (the Los Angeles-based post-punk quartet, not the octogenarian actor who played Sergeant Phil Fish on the sitcom Barney Miller) continue to expand on their cold wave, minimal synth and new romantic influences on Crush, their latest release. The band is as defined by their inability to be defined as anything else; on Crush, the four Chino boys take listeners on an unnerving sonic thrill ride filled with jarring twists and turns.
