Douglas A-4 Skyhawk as a statue in the town of Carmiel
"A news report from 2003 says the Skyhawk was installed in Park Alon (פארק אלון) in Carmiel to commemorate Cpl. Liav Pilgud (רב״ט ליאב פילגוד), age 19, a Carmiel resident. He served in the Air Force as a helicopter mechanic (Yas’ur/CH-53 squadron) at Tel Nof, and was killed in March 1996 in a helicopter accident during his first operational flight."

Feel the heat! During the evening display, the pilot threw the aircraft around using generous helpings of reheat. Powered by two Lyulka/Saturn Al-31F afterburning turbofan engines developing 123 kN each. Bucharest International Air Show 2016.

The iconic Flanker roaring into the sky and flying into the sun like Ikarus. I love the heat effect of the exhaust plume of the afterburner turning the air into jelly. Powered by two Lyulka/Saturn Al-31F afterburning turbofan engines developing 123 kN each. I did close my right eye, as the magnifying effect of the SLR camera can cause retinal burns if pointed at the sun. The silhouette of the Flanker is beautiful, elegant and unmistakable. Short Sunderland ML796 began life as a maritime patrol aircraft, later serving with the RAF and French Aéronavale, before swapping patrols for party lights — she spent the 1960s and 70s in France as a nightclub, complete with a stripped interior and a spiral staircase. Recovered by the Imperial War Museum, ML796 is now restored and on display in the AirSpace hangar at IWM Duxford. Few aircraft can claim to have hunted submarines by day and hosted a dance floor by night.
Sleek, powerful, and timeless — this Lockheed T-33 Silver Star of the French Air Force climbs dramatically through a turbulent, storm-filled sky. ✈️
Its polished metal fuselage reflects the changing light, contrasting beautifully with the dark, textured clouds behind it, enhancing the sense of speed and motion.
A legendary jet trainer, the T-33 played a key role in shaping generations of military pilots. Captured here in flight, this aircraft embodies both aviation heritage and pure aerodynamic elegance, proving that classic jets never lose their impact.
Taking off for the morning air power demo. Leaving beautiful spiral vortices from the propeller tips. Tag der Bundeswehr 2016 (Day of the Armed Forces) held at Flugplatz Hohn, marking 60 years of Luftwaffe and 55 years of LTG 63.

The English Electric Canberra was Britain’s first jet-powered bomber, entering service with the RAF in 1951. Renowned for its high-altitude performance, sleek design, and impressive versatility, the Canberra served in a wide range of roles including bombing, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare. Its exceptional longevity saw it in service with several nations for over 50 years - a true Cold War icon.

A MEMOIR OF MY TOUR OF DUTY IN VQ-1, THIS BROCHURE WAS CREATED FOR A CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY IN 1962.
ONE C.O. (COMMANDING OFFICER) MOVES ON AND ADVANCES TO THE RANK OF CAPTAIN; THE NEW C.O. TAKES OVER COMMAND OF THE SQUADRON.
THE PHOTO IS ONE OF A LOCKEED CONSTELLATION, fondly called Willy Victor; they are designated as WV in naval aircraft identification terms. The other type of aircraft employed by our squadron was the A3D Skywarriors, made by Douglas Aircraft Corporation.
The squadron logo or patch hints not too subtly at the object or squadron mission. The missions of VQ squadrons pertained to all aspects of electronic warfare.
It was a great tour of duty. Because I had never flown on the Constellation when they were used by TWA for commercial use, my assignment to VQ-1 gave me the opportunity to fly on the Lockeed Constellation through MATS.
Throughout my time in the Navy, one of the best flights I ever experienced was on a Constellation while I was on leave in the United States. The Connie flew from what was then Washington DC's Anacostia Naval Air Station to San Diego. It was a long and low altitude flight that afforded one a continuous and glorious view of the continental United States beginning in Washington DC, continuing on down the east coast to Cherry Point MCAS and then onward west to San Diego.
The flight included grand views of the midwest, some small southern Rocky areas and the Grand Canyon. A most memorable flight.

Note the cool looking pilots with their Elbit Systems DASH (Display And Sight Helmet), one of the first helmet display and queing systems ever implemented by a NATO country (2001).

A close-up look at the iconic Harrier, famous for its ability to take off and land vertically. Displayed here on static exhibit, the aircraft showcases the ingenuity of V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing) design, highlighting the unique nozzles, sleek fuselage, and engineering that made it a game-changer in aviation history. A true marvel of Cold War-era aerospace.
Part of a four-ship launch from RAF Lossiemouth. The aircraft are operated by XV (R) Squadron, the GR4 OCU.
This is the last airworthy example of this iconic aircraft - the largest delta-winged aircraft ever. This was taken at RAF Leuchars.
Amazing close-up of the Polish Air Force MiG-29 Fulcrum doing his signature go-around after a low pass in landing configuration. Some children next to me were sad that the MiG was landing and the show was over. Knowing what was to come, I kept my mouth shut and heard their joyful screams as the Fulcrum lit the burners and went vertical right net to us. Awesome!
Captured during the display at ILA, Internationale Luft-und Raumfahrtausstellung Berlin. For your enjoyment and because the air was so clear at that time of day, I am doing my first upload at 3000 pixels wide. Tell me what you think about this format. Enjoy!

Seeing the wear on the paint, I am reminded of the lyrics of a song by Queen: "my make-up may be flaking but my smile...still stays on! / The show must go on! / The show must go on!". Glad to say, the show did go on and this bird is still flying, now with a shiny new coat of paint.
