Here in the middle of nowhere there is absolutely no artificial light that affects the starry sky, so you can see stars even under a full moon.
I tried to reproduce the light conditions as naturally as possible.

I managed to take a picture of the Milky Way before the sun came up again. It was still cold at night so I kept a fire going.

The first time I ever witnessed northern lights, or the aurora borealis, was in 2007. It was totally unexpected and I was ill-prepared for photographing them. The next night I came armed with knowledge as to how to capture them. It was a most spiritual moment ... or should I say hours, for Tom and I. From our campsite we photographed for a bit, but soon got lulled into the experience versus the quest of the image. We gathered some blankets and lots of layers of clothes and laid down on our picnic table and just stared up at nature's light show. It's something that has forever etched itself into my soul. Of course, over the years of visiting Alaska, we have been treated to other sightings and displays as well, such as this one.
Auroras are naturally occurring events related to solar flares. They can present in a variety of shapes, colors, and durations. Each one is different ... each one is special. For those who have witnessed them, you know what I mean. <3

Winter 2019 . taken on a very cold winters night in a burnt out section of lincoln national park with a full moon lighting up some thin cloud.
Located near Salisbury, Pepperbox hill has fine views sweeping across the countryside. Startrails with moon hidden but providing plenty of light. Stack of 3 images - it needed more, but it seems this location is popular for other nocturnal activities.

The northern lights have always been on my bucket list. We were so lucky to see them on our second night in Tromso, Norway. An amazing display of dancing light ribbons. HSS!
The moon on a very chilly night (-29C 20 below F) . Handheld but taken in a hurry. It has been one of the coldest Christmas Days on record in this part of the world. Long range forecast: Getting colder, maybe much colder for the next week!

Not visible by any roads---Illilouette Fall is tucked in Illiloutte Creek Canyon below Glacier Point and eludes most visitors. The obscure fall delights those on the way down from Glacier Point on the Panorama Trail.
It was pretty cold on this night..and one of the harder hikes i had with a full pack on, did I mention it was COLD!?!?!?!
One never knows what they will stumble upon when looking for photo-ops. I was very surprised to find this caterpillar!! At first I only saw its eyes and thought it was a ladybug, lol. Isn't it late to see these?? Does anyone know what type of Caterpillar this is?? I wish I had known what to do with him/her...if anything...to help.

Saint Isaac's Cathedral or Isaakievskiy Sobor is a large architectural landmark cathedral that currently functions as a museum with occasional church services in Saint Petersburg. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint. It was originally built as a cathedral but was turned into a museum by the Soviet government in 1931 and has remained a museum ever since. In 2017, the Governor of Saint Petersburg offered to transfer the cathedral back to the Orthodox Church, but this was not accomplished due to the protests of St Petersburg citizens opposing the offer.
The neoclassical exterior expresses the traditional Russian-Byzantine formula of a Greek-cross ground plan with a large central dome and four subsidiary domes. It is similar to Andrea Palladio's Villa Capra "La Rotonda", with a full dome on a high drum substituted for the Villa's low central saucer dome. The design of the cathedral in general and the dome in particular later influenced the design of the United States Capitol dome, Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Lutheran Cathedral in Helsinki.
The exterior is faced with gray and pink stone, and features a total of 112 red granite columns with Corinthian capitals, each hewn and erected as a single block: 48 at ground level, 24 on the rotunda of the uppermost dome, 8 on each of four side domes, and 2 framing each of four windows. The rotunda is encircled by a walkway accessible to tourists. 24 statues stand on the roof, and another 24 on top of the rotunda.
The Yukon is a great place to go to see the Northern lights, but it can be pretty cold at night, so a warm fire is a welcome, cheerful place to sit when waiting for the display to peak. In this longer exposure, the sparks from the fire make interesting streaks of light.
