Statue at Wesly Bolin Memorial Park to honor and remember Navajo Code Talkers from WWII.
"Known as Navajo Code Talkers, they were young Navajo men who transmitted secret communications on the battlefields of WWII. At a time when America's best cryptographers were falling short, these modest sheepherders and farmers were able to fashion the most ingenious and successful code in military history. They drew upon their proud warrior tradition to brave the dense jungles of Guadalcanal and the exposed beachheads of Iwo Jima. Serving with distinction in every major engagement of the Pacific theater from 1942-1945, their unbreakable code played a pivotal role in saving countless lives and hastening the war's end."

Here are the sketches I've been making over the last few weeks during my free minutes. The main interface elements are laid out, from which I determined the database entries needed. It felt fun to code again.

Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) recently started using a QR-code scanning system for its food inventory management. 2HJ has been doing the inventory management on a database system, but inputting data had been done manually. 2HJ staffers kept track of records on paper and input the data into the system.
This took time and caused mistakes. 2HJ has many volunteer drivers to deliver food to its partner agencies, and it was not easy for the volunteers to keep track of food donations. 2HJ staff always wanted a better system to manage the inventory. 2HJ staffer, Akira Kawada, worked with a QR-code system company, Sato, and recently launched the system.
How the QR code system works
1) Input the data of incoming donations: We input all the information about a donation such as a product name, an amount, and receiving date.
2) Print a label: When a delivery approaches, we print labels and put them on boxes accordingly. The label not only contains the information about the products but also mentions the product is not for sale and our contact information.
3) Read the label: When delivering food items to our partner agency, we use a QR hand scanner to read a QR code on the label to store the information about what items were delivered to which agency.
4) Issue a receipt: After reading a label, a mobile printer prints two copies of receipts. The agency staff member signs the copies, and they keep one copy and 2HJ keeps the other copy.
5) Sync the database: Once the truck comes back to the 2HJ office, we connect the hand scanner with a computer so that the scanner syncs with the database.
6) Print the delivery record: The system manages the information about what was given to who and when. It can print out the data quickly.

Not only does this sign tell you the name of the department, but, by scanning the code with your mobile device, it can also provide you with answers to the most frequently asked ILL questions.
We found a QR code in front of the city hall, that rick rolled us. While it is possible that the city of Prague planted this, it's more believable that the city forgot the domain and some joker purchased it.
This got confirmed a few days later by reddit. www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/cdv87t/this_q...
These were everywhere... I pushed it.
Code Blue button. These where pushed if there was a fight, (inmate on inmate, Inmate on staff) which would sound an alarm and central control would announce it and all availible Officers would respond to the Code.

Today while grocery shopping with Rich I saw a hipster dude in his 30's holding hands with a hipster girl; no big deal; but then I noticed a hanky hanging out of his left pocket (Hanky code is old school gay from way back before I was even born) but it would seem after going through the internet that this is a new hispter thing to do. Hanky codes should be left in the past. Enough said.
