Luna moths are not only one of the largest moths in North America - this one was as big as my hand - they are also one of the loveliest. June is the month when most of the giant silkworm moths emerge from their wintering cocoons here in northern Iowa. Luna moths have a very short life span, a day or two at most and they don't even have mouthparts for feeding. Wouldn't it be magical to see one of these luna moths flying on a full moon night!

The first of the Leafcutter Bees, that I'm raising, to emerge from it's cocoon. I think it's beautiful. Photographed in Maryland.

11 image focus stack, taken with the camera hand held. Canon 80D, Canon 65mm MPE macro lens, Canon twin macro flash. Aperture f/11, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 400, flash power set to 1/32

Today the weather is cold, rainy and windy...

Tiger Cocoon is a macro photograph of a leaf on a light box. The image was inverted, converted to BW and fused with a LAB color space processed version, then flipped vertically and blended using the blend mode feature in Photoshop.

Otis is sunk way down in the cushion, making all of his appendages settle into a compact oval like a cocoon or womb.

EINDHOVEN, Glow for kids - For the sixth time organised Culture Station a project for pupils in primary education and go more than 2,500 students of 40 elementary schools in Eindhoven this year making COCOONS. With different materials and techniques edit the pupils per class a piece of chicken wire which eventually transformed into a giant cocoon of 2 metres high! More than 110 cocoons together form the light art work of the Eindhoven schools.
