Still have more photos from Sri Lanka to come!
This one is taken near Galle, Sri Lanka. The tour guide said this traditional way of coconut rope manufacturing is fading out since it's very labour intensive and factories can do it much better. Sri Lankans use every bit of a coconut from farming to building houses!
In this photo the guy is pushing wet coconuts up a little stream to another worker who scoops it up into a machine.

Coconut lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) The coconut lorikeet is relatively similar looking to the rainbow lorikeet, however, it has a black belly, a noticeably shorter tail and a little less blue on its head. The coconut lorikeet can’t be found anywhere on the Australian mainland, but is widespread across New Guinea and in the north end of the Torres Strait Islands.

The name buko means young coconut in the Philippines. Its white color makes it very easy to spot them even though this was still a youngster (10mm). Mabini, South Luzon, Philippines.
Coconuts are removed from the palms periodically by tree loppers because of the risk of them falling and causing injury. The marks on the tree trunk are from the tree loppers' boot spurs.
The term "coconut" (or the archaic "cocoanut") can refer to the whole coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which botanically is a drupe, not a nut. They are ubiquitous in coastal tropical regions and are a cultural icon of the tropics.

Me and my shell.
Amphioctopus marginatus, also known as the coconut octopus and veined octopus, is a medium-sized cephalopod belonging to the genus Amphioctopus. The main body of the octopus is normally 8 centimeters (3 in) long and including the arms, approximately 15 centimeters (6 in) long. It is found in tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean. It commonly preys upon shrimp, crabs, and clams, and displays unusual behavior including bipedal walking and tool use (gathering coconut shells and seashells and using these for shelter). (Wikipedia)

just like my mother used to make.
No baking
200 g dessicated coconut
250 g sweetened condensed milk
250 g icing sugar, sifted
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
vanilla essence
Mix all together, press half into a tin lined with greaseproof paper, add a few drops of pink colouring to the other half, press on top of the white layer, leave to set, cut into squares.
I accidentally bought the colouring in powder form, it took ages to work in (I didn't even know it existed as powder - it came in a little bottle like the liquid).
