These grainy shots are not the best ever Reds shots, however!! They are a tribute to undoubtedly the best Aerobatic Display Team. The Reds performed at Belfast City on 4 October 2008 in a cloudbase around 1500feet in pouring rain. No one expected a display everyone was once again thrilled at the skill on display. Their guiding motto is ‘Eclat’ which means brilliance, and they proved that again.
The cloudbase was 300 feet and horizontal visibility was reported as 7000 metres. So not a great deal was happening... although the Coastguard SAR helicopter was doing practice instrument approaches and there were a few commercial flights arriving and departing.

We saw a motorglider (with motor off at the time) soaring at cloudbase - it circled us once and then headed uprange right along the ridge. Mad Dog was envious but not foolhardy enough to follow in conditions as strong as we were feeling!
We soon reached cloudbase once again, and with occasional raindrops on our faces we turned east towards the dramatic spine-backed ridge of Roc des Boeufs, the lake and so to ‘home’ beyond it, which now looked a relatively easy glide a few miles away. The large mountain is Tournete which rises to 2531m behind Montmin and the Col de la Forclaz take-off.
