My head-shots or general photo-shoots have been revered simply because of the tactics I use to get genuine expressions on my client's face. Take a look at my good friend Jackee and witness the madness that I may or may not have said to achieve these shots.

I designed these characters for a client's wedding. See how they incorporated these designs into their big day. jmaruyama.com/blog/2013/11/14/wedding-characters/

I had the opportunity to photograph a client's wedding in Hawaii. While I was there, I took the experience of seeing Akaka Falls in person. It is absolutely gorgeous.

And I said I know it well

That secret that we know

That we don't know how to tell

I'm in love with your honor

I'm in love with your cheeks

What's that noise up the stairs babe?

Is that Christmas morning creaks?

...

last night, the babe and i had a huge discussion about our future. we really discovered what each of us want from our relationship, and have set a plan we hope will be the last of many revisions. we'll see how it goes. we'll be celebrating our 4 year anniversary together next month! how exciting. donnie and i got to see each other today for a while and watched some two and a half men. it was a good ending to a horrible photo center experience with Costco of Naples. i mean, NEVER go there, the people there are seriously incompetent. I asked the lady not to autocorrect my photos, they came out dark and the skin tones came out dead pale or dead dark. then she went on to tell me that I cropped my photos wrong in the computer and thats why my client's daughter's head was cut in half. I showed her nicely that I made sure that the crop would include all the girls' heads, and that the photo in question was clearly smaller than the others and the other wallets were clearly showing that the crop was my correct crop and that she screwed up. i got an "ohhh, give me 10 minutes." 10 minutes later I get one sheet of wallets. I wait ten more minutes, then I asked her if the other sheet was being printed or if she forgot, she said no there were only one sheet screwed up, i said no there were two. in the end she printed them out and all was dandy, but i was NOT happy with the quality. I am going to have to drive early monday morning to the costco by my school in the next town and get these photos printed correctly. I will never frequent the Naples Costco photo center again unless its for greeting cards.

but!!!! good news, I went christmas shopping with donnie today and we only have one present left to buy, and its for his little sister. yay!

I was very privileged to be trusted with the painting of a client's Enchanted Doll. Had fun posing her! Couldn't resist a crown!

The stylist secures the client's hair net just before she is put under the dryer.

Went to one of my client's houses to let their two goldens out back and when I turned to my right, there were SIX monarch butterflies on this bush. SIX!!! I was a happy girl. :0)

This was the last rose I photographed while I walked around my client's property in Tanglewood and I almost missed this one as it was very near the ground and turned upside down.

Friday morning in my client's garden

Winter interest in the garden provided by red stems of Cornus alba 'Sibirica' - Red-barked Dogwood

This set up is on the back porch of the client's home (in TX and it was about 95 outside). The whole porch is covered, and it's evening, so the sun is setting behind the trees to the left of the flash. I wish I would have more carefully smoothed the wrinkles since that was a little extra time in PS. I tried moving the flash more left, but then his little foot was too dark. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

This Landscaping was a seasonal update for a client on a 16,384m parcel. It boasts a movie area, secret garden, a family recreation area and tucked away nooks for relaxation and privacy.

Not original I know, but I like how it came out, and more importantly, so did the client's mom! :)

American postcard by Pomegranate, Rohnert Park, CA, no. 2711. Photo: MGM / Underwood Photo Archives Ltd, San Francisco. Francis X. Bushman in Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (Fred Niblo, 1925).

Francis X. Bushman (1883-1966) was an American film actor and director, who was nicknamed the 'King of the Movies'. His career as a matinee idol started in 1911 in the silent film His Friend's Wife. He gained a large female following and was one of the biggest stars of the 1910s and early 1920s. Bushman broke into the film business via the stage. At Essanay Studios in Chicago, he was first noticed for his muscular, sculpted frame. He also worked for the Vitagraph studio before signing with Metro in 1915. His best-known role is as Messala in Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925). He appeared in nearly 200 films.

Francis Xavier Bushman was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1883. As a young man, he joined the Maryland Athletic Club and began a bodybuilding regimen that would give him his famous film physique. He cited Eugen Sandow as one of his bodybuilding influences. In New York City, he worked as a sculptor's model, often posing in the nude in sessions. In 1902, he married seamstress Josephine Fladine Duval. By the launch of his film career, the couple had five children. After appearing in theatre, Bushman was hired by Essanay Studios in Chicago in 1911, launching his film career and stardom. Over the next five years, he appeared generally as the leading man in over a hundred silent films for the studio. The studio's publicity department kept his marriage secret from his fans, who sent him thousands of letters, including marriage proposals. In 1918, he was the subject of a national scandal as his affair with longtime costar Beverly Bayne became public. Three days after his divorce from Josephine was final, Bushman and Bayne were married; they would eventually have a son. From 1914 to 1917 Bushman had been America's most popular leading man, but his 1918 divorce revealed to his bevvy of female fans that he was not the eligible bachelor they thought but a married man with five children. In late 1919 and 1920, Bushman and Bayne co-starred in the stage play 'The Master Thief', from a story by Richard Washburn Child, which successfully toured the country.

Francis X. Bushman eventually retained the services of Harry Reichenbach as his agent. When Bushman noted that he would be well suited to starring in the upcoming film, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (Fred Niblo, 1925), Reichenbach had the plan to increase his client's marketability. From a railway station, Reichenbach took Bushman to see studio executives, while dropping pennies to the street from his pocket. Many people followed the two, picking up the coins along the way. The crowd gave the studio executives the impression that Bushman was very popular and they cast him as Messala. Bushman was concerned that playing a villain would affect his career, so he asked the advice of William S. Hart, who had played the part on stage for years. "Take it,” Hart advised. "It's the best part of the play!" Unlike Ramon Novarro, the star of the picture, Bushman knew how to properly drive a team of horses and a chariot without getting severely injured or killed in the process. At the peak of his career, Bushman was advertised as "The Handsomest Man in the World". He was also known as "the King of Photoplay" or "the King of Movies" before those titles were more popularly attached to Clark Gable. Bushman was paid large salaries during his screen career and donated the land upon which Sid Grauman erected his famous Chinese Theater. But his fortune was wiped out in the Wall Street Crash of 1929, and his career as a film star had had its run.

After his film career had waned, Francis X. Bushman made his broadcasting mark on the CBS Radio network's long-running dramatic serial entitled Those We Love. In the soap opera, which ran from 1938 to 1945, he played the role of John Marshall, father of twins played by Richard Cromwell and Nan Grey. Robert Cummings rounded out the cast. Bushman took small roles in films and attempted to run a few small businesses, all of which lost money. In later years, Bushman made assorted guest appearances on American television in the 1950s and 1960s, including in Burns and Allen, Peter Gunn, Perry Mason, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and Dr. Kildare. Bushman guest-starred as well in 1966 on a two-part episode of Batman. It was his last screen appearance. Bushman's role as a wealthy collector of silent pictures and promoter of a silent film festival. In 1966, Francis X. Bushman suffered a heart attack and died at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. He was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. Bushman was married four times, to Josephine Fladine Duval (1902-1918), Beverly Bayne (1918-1925), Norma Emily Atkin (1932-1956 - her death), and Iva Millicent Richardson (1956-1966 - his death). He had six children.

DJ is being fostered at one of my client's homes. They so wanted to adopt him, but their other dog Emma, was having no part of it. She wanted him out! They are devastated, but have to do the right thing for Emma and their household.

I called another client whose dog died in august. I know they wanted to get another dog around the holidays. I thought DJ was a perfect match for this family, so I brought him over to their house for a few hours today. They fell in love with him immediately. So they are adopting him tomorrow. DJ is a lucky dog. Another happy rescue. And the best news is.... I get to see him M-F every week. :)) I'm crazy about this dog. I would have adopted him myself, if I didn't already have three dogs..

Better On Black

florabella textures and actions

Dear Parlee family members and close friends.

I was deeply saddened to hear about your loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

Here are few of my remembrances of Arnold:

Back in the 70s Arnold was well known at Victoria Airport CYYJ. Rumors were as an airline pilot he once flew B747s. This is unconfirmed to me but he sure knew a lot about airplanes and flying.

Arnold was my first flight instructor when going for my private pilot licence in 1978 at Flight Centre Aviation FBO at CYYJ. He was a bit of a task-master in his teaching methods but perhaps wanted to see right away if a student had the 'right stuff". Not everyone can be taught to fly airplanes; one has to bring something of themselves to complete the mission.

This flier passed the test and went on to own two airplanes before hanging it up in 1985. Firstly, was a Piper Cherokee PA28-160 then the Mooney M20e Super 21.

Sometime around 1990, my employer wanted me to go to the Ellehammer Industries site in Tumwater, WA to checkout a client's job site. He hired Arnold to fly me there. Arnold was to borrow Bent Reinecker's Beechcraft Model 76 Duchess but when Arnold flashed up the twin-engines in the hangar he heard something he didn't like.

He surmised the left engine had a cracked cylinder wall. Bent later confirmed this was the case. We then went over and rented a C172 from the Victoria Flying Club. Arnold got us to KOLM in Tumwater and safely back to CYYJ.

It was well known, Arnold knew a thing-or-two about airplanes!

It turns out Arnold was only 20 days younger than me so I'm aware my time on Earth is also running out. We hope to see Arnold again in Paradise where we'll live forever — throughout Eternity. RIP

Bill

High Flight

BY JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE JR.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

of sun-split clouds,--and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of--wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air ....

Had the best time at my client's Indigo Blu Lexico's Diamonds and Pearls Bachelorette Party! Congrats again on your engagement!

This beauty has berthed in the harbour for over a week now , it is one of the more difficult quays to get a decent photo of ships while stationed there, however on my way back from Torry Battery I managed to get this shot with my Nikkor 28-300 pushed to its max, hence not one of my best photos though at least I have a new addition to my fleet collection .

This was taken this past weekend from a client's balcony. We were shooting their engagement photographs and I took a couple shots of the view. I took some to make a pano but have not really worked on it yet since it might take some manual stitching since I took it by hand.

For my client's son Jack for Christmas. He is 10, maybe i have started off his own style..

This little dragonfly flew up near my face to either ward off or catch mosquitos swarming around me as I was trying to photograph it! Twice, it flew close enough for me to feel the wind it's wings disturbed as it flew. Pretty neat sensation!

Sun room of client's cozy beach house. Bit of a ratty couch on the left. Cleaned it up a bit, but it's definitely "lived in". A couple ambient frames blended with a flash frame. Flash bounced off cream/white wall behind me from opposite corners. There was a third chair at the table, but it blocked that really awesome umbrella holder, so we removed it. Had to clone out a big white vent from that gorgeous ceiling. Could have been a cleaner PS job. Feedback and c.c. always appreciated.

I saw this when coming out of a client's offices and fortunately had my camera with me. The infinity pool covers half the site footprint that their office tower occupies.

This is a car (well actually two cars) but my focus is on the '55 Chrysler) that one of my client's had in his garage. Although this client did purchase three automotive art prints from me, his "assurances" of introducing me to some of his influential classic car owner friends never materialized - not surprisingly.

I snapped the picture of this car as I was waiting for his employees to push another car into position for me to photograph. This car could have made for a great subject for a digital artwork but apparently this "client" wasn't interested. But as I say, he was a "big talker"!

Mando entering the Client's base on Navarro. The Mandalorian Season 2 project was released first, but we definitely made this one first.

When you have no foreground subject ... make your own. I know it's silly, but Katie's mom and I rummaged thru Katie's toys and this is what I came up with. Katie lives with Max and Buster, the dachshunds. (Client's toys ;))
