I was looking for my client's place but accidentally found the entrance of the park. I didn't know what's in there so I drove down the path and found this well hidden trail park.
Sometimes things just come together. We were driving around the Tule Elk loop portion of the San Luis NWR, when movement caught my eye in the tall grass, a COYOTE!!! It was moving in closer and walking parallel to the road. Obviously not bothered by vehicles in the refuge it continued about its business of hunting for something to nosh on. California Ground Squirrels were in good supply and most likely on the menu in this area. I positioned the vehicle, stopped, and did my best to give my clients the nicest angle on this beautiful canid. I will admit, sometimes it's a challenge being the driver. Everyone in the vehicle is clicking away and I’m putting the car in park, shutting off the engine, and then seeing if I have the opportunity to shoot as well. I miss a lot, but seeing the expression and the happiness in my client’s eyes as they get to experience one of these moments, is just about worth it.
Culture and Congress Centre – CKK Jordanki, Torún, Poland
The architecture firm Menis Arquitectos led by spanish architect Fernando Menis has designed the Culture and Congress Centre – CKK Jordanki a contemporary concert hall in Torún, Poland.
CKK Jordanki is located within a green ring around the historic city centre, overlooking the Vistula River. Therefore, special care was took in designing the orientation and height of the volumes so that the presence of the new building establishes a harmonious relationship with the natural and built environment. Thus the building occupies half of the plot, the other half being dedicated to park and the height is kept as low as possible, to avoid blocking the view over the river. The visual effect achieved is that of a natural object, a rock embedded in a gently sloping meadow.
On the other hand, the materiality refers Torun’s Gothic legacy, an UNESCO protected city, in which almost all the façades of the old town boast of red brick. CKK Jordanki’s outside is made of white concrete in contrast to the cuts in the skin that give a glimpse of the red inner lining, made of crushed brick. The use of brick in Jordanki CKK is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional brick, is a reference to Torun’s façades, and ultimately to its cultural heritage.
The program is characterized by a great flexibility at such extent that a building, which according to the client’s brief, was meant to be only a concerts hall, ended up being a space for all kinds of concerts and events, within the same initial budget. First of all, the theatre space is able to adapt easily to different capacities. For instance you may join two rooms to act as the main theatre by moving the walls and changing the number of the easily removable seats. It is possible to hold several separate and simultaneous events. Secondly, thanks to its dynamic ceiling, the building can be tuned to effectively absorb symphonic performances, chamber, theatre, opera, and film and meet any acoustic requirements the theatre designer requires. Finally, the concert hall can open to the outside, allowing to join the interior stage with the park outside for outdoor performances.
Picado, used in the entire building, is a mix of concrete and other materials. At CKK Jordanki, it was mixed either with reclaimed red bricks from a local factory (Ceramsus) for the sound reflection effect; either with a volcanic reddish stone from China, for its sound absorption effect. The picado is an innovative technique, conceived by Fernando Menis, consisting of mixing concrete with other materials and break it afterwards. Besides achieving a rough expression, the picado allows excellent acoustics results. The first time Menis used it, was for Magma Art & Congress (Tenerife, Canary Islands, 2005), by mixing concrete with local volcanic stones. For the CKK Jordanki, the technique has been researched further, tested and certified by the Spanish and the Polish Building Research Institute -ITB, respectively. The red brick is present almost on all the façades of the city and its use in CKK Jordanki is Menis’s contemporary reinterpretation of this traditional material while a clear reference to the town’s cultural heritage.
The definition of the auditorium space and of its shapes was made through an interactive process, always in relation to acoustics, until reaching the final shape. The plastic properties of concrete allows its use in concert halls in many different ways because it allows you to control the geometry (liquid stone) and adapt its shape to the formwork so that you can control the first sound reflections the listener received. In addition, the surface treatment of the crushed brick and concrete mix, allowed us a kind of diffusion, very difficult to achieve with other materials.
The moving parts of the auditorium have an area ranging from 80 to 140 m², having a weight that varies according to the piece, from 11 to 20 Tn. Each of the pieces can move independently from 3 to 5 m in height, allowing adjustment of the geometry and volume of the hall, depending on the needs of each moment, transforming a volume of 8,200 m3 with a time reverberation of 1.85 seconds, into a volume of 6,800 m3, with a reverberation time reduced down to 1.35 seconds. By adding additional absorption you could reach a reverberation time of 1.2 seconds, which covers the entire range of possible activities: 1.85 seconds for symphonic music, 1.6 seconds for opera and 1.2 seconds for theatre.
Product shoots in the client's house are happy at all times. It was a special and fun experience, everyone have a whole day of ideation, jigsaw puzzles, toys arrangement, inflatable pools, enjoying sunshine ☀️ and lunch together on the rooftop.
In addition to product photography, a short video was specially shot for the client's inflatable toys, and some motion graphics were added to make it more interesting. 😆

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your Wednesday! Today I will be sharing the second and final set of photos of a project that we’ve recently wrapped up for returning clients of The Design Firm, Aisha & Bookie Moon. For long time followers of our work, you may remember the photos we posted back in August 2020, showcasing the residential project that we completed for Aisha & Bookie. That project was to convert approximately ¼ of their sim into their residential oasis. We’ve since been brought back to finish the approximate remaining ¾ of their sim & turn it into a NYC themed metropolis, with ample space to house Bookie's store and many other RP friendly spaces!
In this second set of photos, I’ll be showcasing the large central park-esque are that we’ve created in the middle of the commercial portion of our clients sim 😊 In terms of large & useable outdoor garden areas, I think this might take the cake in becoming my absolute favourite that we have done to date! As this is a public sim (our client's store, Addicted To Ink, is located in the commercial area) we wanted to ensure that there was ample space for numerous people to gather. Whether it was for RP related activities, photos, or even for people like me who like to explore new sims and spaces, we wanted to create an environment that rang true to our client's vision, while designing and creating the spaces in a way that allowed them to be easily used by those who are fortunate enough to visit this sim.
As always, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting the work that my colleagues and I churn out at The Design Firm. It means the world to us!
Lastly, I always recommend viewing my photos in full screen mode when able! This allows you to see the true depth and detail of the spaces that my colleagues and I create for our clients.

These two sit about 5 feet apart guarding a path from a client's house down to the barbacue pit with table and chairs. They're about two and a half feet high. Made explore.
At this point, I had walked several blocks underground, navigating my way from the Penn Station Acela/Metroliner train depot near 8th Avenue, over to the IRT subway line at 7th Avenue.
On this platform, there are uptown and downtown express trains ... and the downtown-bound passengers were chatting amongst themselves, while the uptown-bound passengers (like me) were watching the arriving train slow down as it approached us ...
Note: I chose this as my "photo of the day" for Sep 14, 2015.
**********************************************
Throughout my adult life, most of my business trips have involved air travel from New York City; I’ve seen the insides of more airports and more airplanes than I care to remember.
But most of my trips along the eastern corridor of the U.S. have involved trains, and I find them to be a very relaxing and enjoyable contrast. These trips almost always start with a subway ride to Penn Station, rather than a taxi ride to JFK or LGA or EWR; and they are followed by a relatively pleasant journey along the East Coast on an Amtrak Acela train that has a much greater chance of departing and arriving on time than most of my airplane journeys.
On a recent trip to Philadelphia, my journey began with a subway ride from 96th Street to Penn Station; and then a train trip to the architecturally interesting Amtrak station in Philadelphia, before reaching my client’s office for a day-long meeting. At the end of the day, the journey reversed itself, and I was back home shortly after dinner.
I took a few photos and videos along the way; the ones I’ve uploaded here are representative of the trip...
The site is located near the center of Tokyo. It is a small 44m2 corner plot bounded by two streets. Conforming to legal conditions and in response to the client’s wish for a ‘roofed garage’ the volume was trimmed from various directions. Using the words ‘Mineral’ and ‘reflection’ as guiding concepts, Atelier Tekuto proceeded to use subtraction as a positive tool for design.
MINERAL
Minerals are phenomena that combine abstract properties (conceptual objects) with nonfigurative properties (objects whose presence of matter is more tangible). Changes from transparent to translucent to opaque occur according to light intensity and angle. The mineral body cannot be regarded as a simple element.
REFLECTION
Reflection is a recent concept pertaining to the perception of space. Vision is an important factor in the recognition of space. By controlling geometries (facets with three factors: transparent, translucent and opaque) and entangling them in a three-dimensional way inside the internal space, visual reflection is induced. This results in a deviation from the restrictiveness of space.
As people move inside the space, or as light enters from changing angles, the facet’s presence changes, creating a dynamic space. In contrast to the abstractness of the polyhedron are the kitchen, counter shelf, stairs, floors and toilet box equipped with functionality that exist as nonfigurative objects. The third floor bathroom unit features a mirror finish in stainless steel, which combines both concepts of object and reflection, and presents itself as a substitution of both ‘minerals’ and ‘reflection’.
The Relationship with the surrounding environment is expressed in the small plaza open to the street, a piloti like space that emerged after placing the garage on ground floor. Its liberating feeling might trigger some change in the surrounding streetscape.

We made another video to present one of my latest landscaping and decoration works.
“My goal is to reinforce the client's identity again with a mixture of comfort and style.” In this work I wanted a total immersion with nature inside and outside the home.
The predominance in this decoration is nature and the feeling of coziness. A place to relax alone, as a couple or with friends. I used a lot of wooden furniture but in a few items a slight touch of modernity after all, nothing better than a wine cellar with wines at the ideal temperature.
Press play and watch this paradise we call "Immersione".

This cozy little model of a client's house was designed to be built together with their kids. The details to be captured, the features that make their house their house, were based on discussions with the client. It's a lot of personalization in a small package!

I was 20 minutes late leaving a client's office and when I got onto Oxford St the sun was hanging magestically over Marble Arch. I knew what I wanted to shoot today but it was touch and go whether I would get to the spot in time to get the full impact of the sunset. A tube ride and a jog through the park later I made it just as the sun disappeared. I really needed to be here 15 minutes earlier to capture the sun larger and higher in the sky........

Blond or whatever
Little kids refer to blond hair as “yellow” and choose a yellow crayon to illustrate it. Somewhere along the way, they learn to call it “blond,” but still use “black,” “brown,” and “red” to refer to other colors of hair.
When I worked in the beauty industry, every stylist I interacted with worked to “correct” any yellow in a client’s hair. The desired blonde shades were “icy” and “cool.” I suspect that’s just another invented flaw (like gray hair) to bump up the tab. My stylist was appalled when I told him I liked my yellow hair and refused a toner. (And if I really cared, toning and glossing hair at home is pretty hard to mess up.)

This project was commissioned by one of the prestigious beauty schools. The goal was to design a new school building to serve as the business headquarters for business expansion and the establishment of a brand identity.
The design, emphasizing the client's initial "O," reflects their ambitions for the future.

Pinturicchio was one of the favorite painters of Pope Alexander VI and by the prelates of his circle.
One of these was Liberato Bartelli who appears in this small altarpiece, destined for the family altar in his hometown, Sanseverino Marche.
It is one of the painter's masterpieces and we find all the features that fascinated Raphael: the meticulous definition of the landscape, the decorative richness of the gold scattered everywhere, the elegance of the divine figures and the precise definition of the client's portrait.
Grabbed this shot from a client's office window. Tricky lighting at this time of day, with backlit, shaded foreground buildings and a very bright sky. iPhone in HDR mode grabs a surprising amount of detail - with a lens the size of a small pea! Finished it off with some modest colour tweaks in Photoshop.

Bodycon dresses are extremely popular with my girls (and myself!) at The Salon. They let us put the goods openly on display for our clients - even before we get undressed!
This kind of slow teasing is especially useful in our escort work, when my girls are flattering their client's manhood and pretending that they are mesmerized by his masculine charms. There is little that pleases a septuagenarian aristocrat more than being accompanied on a date by an attractive and curvacious younger woman - wearing a very clingy, sexy and revealing dress! This ritual (usually!) puts lead in their pencils.
Bodycon dresses are thus a key part of the slow, gentle build-up that our noble clients require - especially if they are intending to go full steam ahead back at their hotel. Or perhaps in one of our girls' well-equipped private boudoirs, in our notorious HQ at No.1 Westmoreland Mews!

oh? are you sure you want to do that?
your honor, we believe that the evidence clearly establishes that the defendant could not have been in a corner of the room at the time the crime was committed.
not in a corner, you say?
just a feeling we have, your honor.
well, I don't know, but it's your funeral. or your client's, rather, if you're wrong.
thank you for that, your honor.
