After graduating from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Benson (inspired by her four brothers whom all served in the military) joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corp with three of her classmates.
During her service, Benson provided medical care to wounded soldiers, set up field hospitals, supervised patient wards, and assisted in life-saving operations in Hawaii, Okinawa, and Japan. She also treated victims of the first atomic bomb in Japan.
While serving in Hawaii, Benson met her future husband – U.S. Army Lt. Col. William Benson. After leaving the Army, Benson worked as a civilian nurse for several decades before retiring in her 60s.
Benson’s daughter, Phyllis Benson, received the U.S. flag from her mother’s service.

This is my classmates's picture at the Pratt's cafeteria. There were Ke, Nad, Natsue and I. All of us always bring our lunch from home, but this day Natsue bought food at cafeteria. The food looked so good, but it was quite expensive. It's about 240 Bath per a meal.
Anyway, I didn't write diary 3 days ago because i have had a lot of homework. I think it's too much. I don't know what should i do first. Yesterday was a bad day for me because i felt so sad and lonely. I seemed sick, but i think i was sick inside more than physical sick. Maybe this kind of desease has been called " homesick". I didn't know what should i do with my life. I was very confused and i really missed my Mum and Dad in Thailand. Now i think Thailand is the best country in the world in my mind. I have many things in my head, but i can't share with anyone here. However, today i'm quite better because i have to fight and fight for my future. I can't stop and i can't give up.
