This rare example of railroad technology demonstrates how a steam locomotive was turned around, using only compressed air, over 130 years ago. Acquired by the Texas State Railroad in 1981, the turntable was originally built in the late 1890s by the St. Louis and San Francisco (Frisco) Railroad located in Paris, Texas. Starting in 1902, it served a six-stall roundhouse at their Paris rail yard.

Engine number 316 is the oldest locomotive operated on the[Texas State Railroad. This engine was built in 1901 by the A. L. Cooke Locomotive Works for the Texas & Pacific Railway, and is the only operating T. & P. steam locomotive in existence. In 1951 the locomotive was saved from the scrappers torch by a remarkable Lady (who wished to remain anonymous). She purchased the engine and, with help from the T. & P., donated it to the city of Abilene in honor of its' seventy -fifth anniversary as a city. In 1974 the citizens of Abilene graciously donated the locomotive to the newly formed Texas State Railroad State Historical Park.

I haven't seen a decent sunset for some time, there always seems to be a bank of low cloud sitting over Devon. It had been a wonderful afternoon, with not a breath of wind to stir the surface of the rock pools . Even the fish were behaving themselves. It was just the best place to be at that moment of time, as the sky slowly took on hints of purple and pink :)) I absentmindedly wandered across the beach in a euphoric state, checking out the various rocks for possibilities. I then realised i hadn't done a sunset in my immersing myself in

nature series. So Citizen of Glass by Agnes Obel it is, I'm hoping I'm almost transparent :)))

Spiral staircase at the Citizen M hotel in Southwark, South London.

Thanks to Sean Batten for sharing a map of spiral staircases across London.

Looking forward to seeing you on YouTube on the 5th December when I'll upload a video of some of my best photos to my channel, Sights and Scenes.

Captured on a quiet street during a quiet Saturday afternoon.

ENG: The Pankow Citizens' Park is a 12 hectare park area along the Panke (small river) in Berlin. It was renovated as a country estate in 1864 and acquired by the community of Pankow in 1907. The public green area offers a lot of recreation, playgrounds or a small library as well as a beer garden and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Pankow Town Hall in the district of Pankow. But the park is without direct connection to the special train to Pankow. 😀

"What do you see in the dark?

Do you even know where you are?

Are you awake or this is a dream?

Not everything is as it seems

Can you sense it, don't care if you don't

Sometimes you don't know the difference

Black of the night, is just the disguise

Imagination running wild

Maybe I'm a monster"

Macro Mondays them for June 2 is "Watch." You'll note that the only hands in this picture belong to this watch.

"Yay! Another spiral staircase" I hear you shout, It is but this is one of my favourites from my trip to London last week.

This lovely spiral is in the Bankside Citizen M hotel in Southwark. I didn't set up any appointments for this one, I just walked in and spoke to the girl at the desk and she was more than happy for me to spend a bit of time to get the photos I wanted. It's a fun and challenging location to shoot at as there isn't much room underneath the staircase and it involves a bit of crawling around on the floor.

I set up my camera on my mini tripod and with the omnidirectional screen on my camera I was able to find my composition without breaking my back in the process.

citizenM is a Netherlands based hotel chain. It opened its first hotel at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in 2008, followed by one in city of Amsterdam itself in 2009. Its first overseas hotel in Glasgow opened in 2010, followed by one in London in 2012.

The staircase itself was built in Leiden in Holland and then shipped over to the UK and installed into the hotel.

Citizen M hotel, Shoreditch

The town of St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland lies within the Kingdom of Fife. Pictured here are a couple of locations from the town.

Taken maybe a couple hours before a horrendous squall with record breaking winds in Indy. The storm was a beast that killed several citizens at the State Fairgrounds..

Citizen M Hotel on Holywell Lane in Shoreditch faces onto a wall that regularly features painted advertising murals. These classical pots in funky colours are (I think) for Royal Doulton.

Project RedBand

A citizen-science based project on Barnegat Bay to engage locals and visitors to the Jersey Shore in osprey management and conservation.

Ospreys have made a remarkable recovery in New Jersey. Over the past 40 years we have seen the population grow from only 53 pairs in 1973 to 542 in 2013! Over that same time funding needed for their management has declined. Today their population is not in jeopardy of being extirpated as it was in the early 1970s. As funding is being directed towards species that are in decline, we move to utilize our citizen scientists and volunteers to help monitor and manage the population.

To help engage citizen scientists and for the first time in over 20 years, young ospreys have been marked with an auxiliary band in New Jersey. The new band, which is a red anodized aluminum rivet band bears an alpha-numeric code allows birders, osprey watchers and wildlife photographers the ability to identify these individual birds by their bands. This new project is being focused on ospreys that nest in the Barnegat Bay watershed from Point Pleasant south to Little Egg Harbor. The main goals of the project are to engage the public in osprey management and conservation along the Jersey Shore. At the same time, while collecting data from re-sightings, we will learn about their dispersal, foraging habits, site fidelity, migration routes, and their life span.

All auxiliary banded osprey in NJ wear the red band on their right leg.

This time I asked if I could take the shot.. it was worth it for the smile I got:))

This illustration simply shows a typical Ancient Roman family c. 150 AD.

The Father wears a toga over his tunic, which was the typical dress of adult male citizens. His is plain white, because he is an ordinary citizen, however senators had a purple stripe on their tunic and toga. Sometimes other colors of Togas were worn, like black for funerals. Only the Emperor could wear an all purple toga, which was extremely expensive.

The Mother wears a stola. This dress is very similar to the chiton of Ancient Greece. It could be either sleeveless like the one pictured or with long, fasten up sleeves.

The children wear tunics. The boy and baby both wear bullas around their necks. These are good luck charms believed to ward off evil spirits. When the boy turns 14, he will go to the Forum, where he will have his bulla removed and given a Toga, a sign of becoming an adult male citizen.

Questionable... 🤔
