CIRCLES have been hard at work promoting their brand of Australian metal worldwide, basking in worldwide press attention since the release of their critically acclaimed debut EP 'The Compass' in May 2011. Throughout 2012 the band have been on the road touring whilst also creating and writing much of their new material.
The result is a debut album that is set to take the band into previously unchartered waters with a fresh sound that is uniquely Circles. Mixing up cutting edge production techniques and innovative progressive metal that pushes the boundaries of the listeners experience, the album is dripping with melody throughout, with hidden elements of electronica , topped off with some of the finest vocal delivery since Mike Patton's lungs arrived on the musical landscape.
Circles debut album will be released on Basick Records in Spring 2013.

In this project I was inspired by one of the artists with saw who used repeating shapes in a grid. The narrative I wanted to present was the presence of circles of all sizes in my day-today life.

this is a classic real world example of 3D model building.
In a 3D program this is created by creating a cube and then creating a sphere with exactly the same volume (internal space). The cube and the sphere are aligned in all three dimensions (ie the center of each of them is in the same location) then the objects are grouped together and the sphere is set to become a negative object, subtracting away from what ever objects it is grouped with.

after you have pressed the little pieces tightly to the circle, then you will use a glue stick to adhere the actual marble square to the block. Both squares are 10 1/2in so they will match up.
You will place the ring on top of the marble fabric, and then gently press them together (using a medium hot iron)
*If direction matters, make sure that your blocks are going in the right direction before you press it down!

It’s been a long time since I started on this walk.
I can see the path I traced to arrive here, the curved nuances of now-seeming split-second decisions that crowded me into taking a turn for the worse (or better?). I want out, but am dizzy at the thought of where out might lead.
I don’t hazard dreaming much. Without intention, there are only forced turns. I turned my back on one very important goal for no reason other than I stopped liking it. No wonder it seems so confined in this space: that reason seems "not good enough."
The problem with getting out of here is that I don’t know what to expect. I don't know what I can expect from or of myself these days. The words don't come like they once did, and those that do seem to be circular -- I did this, I felt this, I wanted this, I lost this, I feel this.
Idle, I continue turning inward.

Life's turns take you inside and then outside, as in this labyrinth.

The night after the wedding was New Years. So after a few drinks (and a stinking hot day) we had a few more attempts at the long exposure shots.
Most of these shots were 15-25 sec exposures with flash.
