Cima d’Asta at 2,847 metres is the highest mountain of the Fiemme Mountains in the eastern part of the Italian province of Trentino.

It is situated between the Vanoi valley to the north and the Tesino valley to the south and is 18 km north-east of the town of Borgo Valsugana. Just south of the summit is a mountain lake at 2460 m, the Lago di Cima d’Asta, from which the river Grigno originates (from Wikipedia).

Union Pacific 6930 and siblings power up for the steep grades ahead as they approach the LA&SL depot at Kelso, California.

Cima Spiadon Forcella dello Spiaz Col Dela Crose

The top of Bolivia, Nevado Sajama, rises up to 6,542 m (21,463 ft), 2,428 m (7,966 ft) above the already very high plain surrounding it, as viewed from the village and chapel of Tomarapi, bathed in the first light of the day. Sajama is a fairly popular climbing destination due to its relatively straightforward and non-technical nature (extreme elevation aside). The summit was the site of the highest fútbol match, when two Bolivian teams climbed to the top and played a game to protest FIFA’s decision to halt holding matches in La Paz because of its elevation (3,640 m /11,942 ft)

The historic chapel, dating from Spanish colonial times, was renovated in 2010 with support from the U.S. embassy in Bolivia. The bell tower looks a bit crooked, and indeed it is.

The mountain and village are located in Sajama National Park, which is rich in unique biodiversity including the Queñoa De Altura trees (Polylepis tarapacana) that grow on the slopes of Sajama, vicuñas (a camelid animal related to the domesticated llama), and rheas (flightless birds).

I had never noticed this before, this has dial tone and does not have a coin slot. In the parking lot of the long closed store, near the mail boxes.

Cima California, Mojave National Preserve.

Union Pacific 8540 west on a beautiful October afternoon.

Climbing Cima Hill is simple. Descending Cima Hill is demanding.

Eastbound trains on the Union Pacific Los Angeles and Salt Lake route (LA&SL) leave the decending path of the dry Mojave River after leaving Afton Canyon and begin a 50 mile climb to Cima Summit. The grade stiffens to 2.2% at Kelso. Slow steady progress at full throttle brings a train to the edge of the Joshua Tree forest on Cima dome.

Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) was implemented on the single-track LA&SL during World War II to manage the surge in traffic. Sidings were placed both on the north and on the south of the main track at Cima. Implementation of Two Main Track (CTC 2MT) control of the summit area at Cima allowed flexibility and eliminated the need for traditional train orders. Today, the UP dispatcher in Omaha often plans meets at Cima holding a westbound train draped over the summit on the two main track, while an eastbound grinds up the grade. This strategy avoids difficult train handling on the steep grade.

This is the last view of Cima an engineer on an eastbound sees at the east end of 2MT at MP 254.6 (miles from Los Angeles) looking east at dawn. Both the north and south sidings join the main track before it vanishes into the distance.

The east face of Cima di Jazzi, 3804m. This summit is located on the border between Italy and Switzerland, not far from the Massif of Monte Rosa; and, on the Italian side, it flaunts the muscles, with grim cliffs that fall for more than 1800m.

Wikipedia defines Cima (which is Spanish for "Summit") as a small unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County, California.

With a right of way bordered by hearty Joshua Trees, Union Pacific 6930 leads a hot trailer/container train through remote Cima, California.
