I guess it would be sacrilegious not to include this Chuck Berry song somewhere along the ride down Route 66. Hope it makes you smile. The real question is it Teepee or Tepee? :)

song of the day: you never can tell, by chuck berry. just cuz it's fun.

Chuck Berry's 1973 Cadillac Eldorado at the Smithsonian's Black History Museum in Washington, D. C.

The car was nice, but what I really came away with from this museum was that the Jim Crow era in the U.S. never ended and that the repression and financial exploitation of black people in this Country continues practically unabated today. If you don't believe me, google, "red-lining," "contract for deed," "pay day loans," and "medicaid expansion," just to start.

Chuck Berry passed away yesterday. Aged 90 and recognized as one of the greatest rock'n'rollers ever, so let's not grief, but instead enjoy his music that became the anthems of generations to come:

When Chuck Berry was a boy, the Fox Theatre in St. Louis refused to admit him because of his race. On his 60th birthday, in 1986, he drove his 1973 Cadillac Eldorado onto the same stage for the filming of Hail! Hail! Rock ’n’ Roll. He donated the car to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.  Berry, 85, still performs at a club near his Wentzville, Missouri, home.

I couldn't let today pass without paying tribute to Chuck Berry.

He wasn't the only one to cover this classic but for me, his version was closest to its R&B roots, with jazz overtones he so often blended into his songs. Released in March 1961 it was the first time I became aware him and his distinctive style of music.

I soon became a big fan of his music and who would've known back then that one day I'd be living on a part of Route 66 here in Albuquerque?

If I had to choose my favourite song by him it would be such a hard choice. I love Never Can Tell, Maybelline, Roll Over Beethoven and Get Your Kicks On Route 66.

Thank you for the music Chuck Berry - October 18, 1926 to March 18, 2017. RIP.

Dimanche 19 Mars – Cassé, brisé, le rock and roll est en deuil. Salut Chuck.

I thought I would post a photo of Chuck Berry's statue since it is in University City, where I live. Across the street is the Blueberry Hill where he played regularly until last year.

... but he could play a guitar just like a ringing a bell ...

You've been an inspiration for so many great musicians.

Thank you for your fantastic songs.

Rock and roll can never die !

This is a selection of the records that influenced me as a guitarist when I was young.

Can you identify the albums?

One of the original greats of rock and roll died yesterday in his home near Wentzville, Missouri. My photo was taken on a visit to St.Louis in 2011, the city of Chuck's birth.

Wearin' those dresses, your hair done up so nice

You look so warm, but your heart is cold as ice

I'm like a one-eyed cat, peepin' in a sea-food store

I can look at you, tell you don't love me no more...
