I work in a small motorcycle workshop. So that it doesn't get boring, we organize an event from time to time. Every year there is the "Chopper Day". Except for the last 2 years, you know why. But hopefully it will be that time again in 2023. I love my job!
What an experience it was to see and hear the train make its slow and sinuous way up the valley from Glenwhilly. Six of us were in various positions to record the event.
When we discussed it that evening, it was clear that the second loco was not working properly. There is little exhaust to confirm this, and the driver shut off power shortly after the shot was taken for the speed restriction over the two bridges here. When power was reapplied, an impressive tower of clag rose from both locos, a little more in fact from the second class 20.

Captain Cook discovered a safe haven at what he called Dusky Bay and had his astronomer carefully determine its location by the stars so other ships could find it. Only problem, apart from sandflies, is that in 250 years no one has ever built a road to it. In this photo you can see the terrain inland from Dusky. We travelled 6 days by boat to get in but "as the crow flies" after 30-40 minutes we were back at civilization.
Now that Craig's huggy arms are all the way across the country, I know how Chopper must have felt when I was horning in on the affections.
It's hard to believe that it was 15 years ago when I took this photo of this gentleman and his chopper.
The frigid waters of Pengo Bay, overlooked by the looming glacial cliffs of Aptenodytes, are the frequent site of shipwrecks and marooned seafarers. Emergency water rescue duties are handled by the civillian RockHopper Rescue Chopper.
The helicopter features dual wide-opening doors, a winch system with a rescue basket, a spotlight for locating lost arctic researchers (among others), a two-man (or penguin) flight cockpit, and a main cabin with room for four crewmen (or women) and an occupied gurney.
Built in support of General Frost of the Penguin Empire for DA4.

And now something completely different than my normal nature images...
I was capturing birds by the lakeshore a couple of summers ago and this helicopter flew right over my head!
I had fun processing it as a graphic. Enjoy!

an old friend of mine asked back in winter to help him with some shots of his chopper. it was a life dream of his to get into some biker mags. he even arranged the obligatory bikini model.
we met after work at a biker bar south of raleigh. i shot some pool, had a beer or two, hung out with the owner and his minature doberman Spike while i waited.
once my friend showed up, we rolled down to a nearby lake for some shots - the bikini model was stuck at work.
we got a couple test shots in that afternoon, and we'll do the real set next tuesday.
