The weather is turning cooler, definitely seeing a lot of chipmunks out and about preparing for winter rest.
So much cuteness! The little thing came out of its hole in the tree stump to pose like a model for the camera. Photo chosen for front page of Colors of the Heart, April 2023.
I watched this chipmunk cram many crabapples into its cheeks before scampering off to deposit them into its burrow. Quite entertaining!
Modeling for me on top of a neighbor's rock wall.
I believe this is an Eastern Chipmunk. They are very curious and it played hide-and-seek with me for 20 minutes, darting for cover one minute and peeking back up the next :)
Late afternoon sun providing the nice backlighting here.
Enjoy!
The chipmunks decided that the black-eyed susan blooms were quite tasty, as did several other critters. They managed to strip almost every single bloom in about 3 days.
This is a first for me folks. Let me know if you've ever seen this behavior before. Wish I could have been closer for the shot but just to witness this was pretty cool.
I couldn't resist this cute little chipmunk scurrying around gathering the sunflower seeds. Luckily he stopped long enough to eat one too! One of those rare occasions I could actually snap a shot! St Elmo, Colorado.
I made it through the hurricane just fine, it was a long and violent one, until you are in it, you don't realize how relentless they are and this one was so big and long, it was over me for 24 hours.. Needless to say I don't care to do that one over! I want to thank you all for your prayers and concern.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
It's been raining (again) so in this portrait you can see the little tiny waterdrops on his whiskers. I say "his" but the truth is I have no clue on the gender!
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and fave my photo is really appreciated have a nice weekend everyone :)

September...time to stock up and get the underground stash ready. Chipmunks prefer to gather nuts and seeds that will not perish, and they hoard them in underground tunnels which can be as long as 30 feet. In winter, they enter a state of torpor, a deep sleep where their body temperature drops to 40F, and they wake occasionally to eat their stored food.
Another shot in my multiples series, a Least Chipmunk seems to be sharing a secret with a friend. These little charmers were photographed in Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado.
I spent a couple of hours stalking this little guy, in the garden of our holiday rental, last week. After a couple of frustratingly fleeting glimpses, he finally came out of hiding & remained still for long enough for me to steal a couple of shots.
Cape Cod - Aug 2017.
I very rarely shoot at ISOs this high, but it was dark and raining (or pouring, depending on the moment). I'm impressed with what I got here. He was a nice little model.
This was an almost full frame shot, slightly cropped. Noise reduction and resizing to 1600 wide makes the noise pretty much disappear.
A chipmunk is among the first to arrive after I put out some feed. I sit in my chair on the patio and watch their antics.
